Trick or Treat! 10 Tips for not letting this year’s Halloween weekend drag you down!
Every year Halloween weekend hits colleges around the United States; and when this weekend hits, it hits hard. Whether it’s crazy parties, gooey sweets or the cold October air, here are some tips for making the most of your weekend:
1. Stay in packs! This weekend is notorious for being a dangerous one, especially on college campuses, so keep close to your friends this weekend.
2. Have fun with your costume! And, to quote Mean Girls, “Halloween is the one night a year when girls can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it.” So stop worrying ladies, you look great.
3. Be careful what you drink! Date rape drugs are way too common, and way too easily slipped into drinks these days (for both men and women). So just be mindful of what you’re drinking and from where your drink came!
4. Satisfy your cravings, but don’t over indulge. Halloween candy is stocking the shelves in almost every grocery store. So get that candy corn that you’ve been craving but don’t stock up for the winter and down it in a night.
5. Keep your I.D. and some form of cash on your person. Costumes can be rough places to store cash, however make sure you have both identification and some quick cash on you if you get in a rut.
6. Have a designated driver. If you or your friends go out this weekend, make sure you have a DD to get you home. Halloween is in the top 10 most dangerous driving weekends of the year. And, if you decide to go out on the 31st watch out for trick or treat-ers!
7. Keep warm! October can be quite chilly, and the colder air makes it easier for viruses to spread! Bundle up so that you’re body is healthy and ready to fight off any seasonal colds.
8. Explore your options! There are so many phenomenal fall activities during this time of year. So, why not take advantage of them? Whether it’s pumpkin picking, haunted hayrides, corn mazes or apple picking, there’s plenty around! (See these other MHC writer’s articles)
9. Watch a scary movie. Last year, my college ended up snowed in for the weekend; so, if you’re partying is challenged by the elements, or you just want to stay in, be festive and watch a scary flick.
10. Make a game plan for your evening. Decide where you want to go for your Hallo-weekend. By deciding a plan ahead of time, you and your friends can know what you’re doing even if you get separated during the night.
So, there are my 10 tips for the upcoming weekend. Until next time, have an awesome Hallo-weekend!
