Stay Awake: Beat that 2:30 Feeling!

By Andrea Montoya on October 11, 2012

Yikes, now THAT’s a Yawn!

If you’re like me then you’re forced to wake up at 5:30 in the am.  The goodness continues once you’re awake, you’re forced to attend classes for a remainder of 12 more hours.  The question is, how does one stay awake for that long amount of time??

No, I am not trying to be an info-mercial for morning burst face scrub or 5 hour energy.

In my experience there are 3 types of “Energy Boosters” that actually work for me:

  1. Morning Coffee. Shocker right? Believe me or not this really does wake a person up.  I save time in the morning by investing in a travel mug to bring to my insanely early morning class.  Plus, it only cost me $1 to purchase.  It sure does beat a daily $3-4 drink at Starbucks.

2. Exercise Routine.  I know what you’re thinking.  How does this help me stay awake exactly?  Well answer-seeker, I’ll tell you.  Exercise, as simple as it can be (whether it’s walking or jogging) can be beneficial for the body.  Special endorphins get released to really wake up that brain and say, “Hey! Time to get a move on it!”  Exercise doesn’t only wake someone up; it also promotes a healthier you at the same time!  How can you go wrong with that?

3. Gatorade Chews.  These are something I just recently came across and they really do work.  The major upside to these is that the taste is not terrible like the other competition.  These are Gatorade-flavored and are filled with energy boosts.  My only advice for these are to be cautious around children, they’re already bouncing off the walls as it is.

As for you “Sleepers,” I’ve seen people asleep just about anywhere and everywhere you can think of.  Students are caught sleeping on benches, in class, and yes, in the library.  They know who they are: hogging the booth-tables.  I’ve even seen them snoring in their cars.  This in turn proves cars are more of a convenience than just being reliable transportation.

All in all, my final message is to choose whichever method works for you and good luck early birds!
