Obama Campaign close to $1 billion- September's fundraising effort proves fruitful
If there is one thing every presidential election bombards the public with, it’s fundraising. Because campaigns of this magnitude require an unimaginable amount of money, candidates seek help from their supporters. This election year has been no exception. Both presidential candidates have asked for donations and held fundraising events alike. Before August, Obama trailed behind Romney’s thick-pocketed campaign, but due to a few of Romney’s candid mishaps, the democratic party welcomed a push into the foreground. The monetary surge shouldn’t only be attributed to the republican candidate’s blunders.
The democratic convention stood solid ground and rallied many supporters, both those who have been actively supporting President Obama, and those who might have been stagnant and needing a reason to get involved. What might have been the most welcome surprise, though, is the amount of new contributors. This year’s campaign saw a surge in new support. Obama himself took to twitter with the stats tweeting the following:
Barack Obama
@BarackObama Of the 1,825,813 people who donated in September, 567,000 were new to this organization—not having given before in 2008 or 2012.
The Obama campaign saw contribututions from nearly 10 million individuals according to USA Today. Catering to the middle class, Obama’s email marketing targets individual dontations of as little as $5, and those small donations have proved to add up quickly. Let’s not forget that powerhouse couple Beyonce and Jay-Z did host a mega fundraising event for the President. Still, the President’s campaign has thrived off of the many small donations from a multitude of people. USA Today also reported that the Obama campaign has raised nearly $1 billion since its start making itvery financially sound as election season nears its end. September proved to be an important month for the democratic presidential candidate.
One thing is certain- lack of funds cannot be blamed for the loss of this election on either party’s side. In the midst of a still trembling economy, the presidential campaigns have remained financially fit.
