Boston Fashion Week Follow Up
Last weekend, I had the privilege of being in Boston during Boston Fashion Week for two days. I stayed at the Copley Marriott, which is attached to the Copley Mall located in the Back Bay. The hotel was filled with women carrying Chanel and Prada bags. For those of you who have never been to the Copley Mall before, it’s kind of like being in a museum of clothing but everything is new and you can touch and try on anything. Clothing is displayed beautifully. In fact, some people just come to the Copley Mall to take pictures of the store windows.
While I was there, I visited Barney’s, Neiman and Marcus, Tiffany’s, David Yurman, Burberry, and Armani Exchange. However, by far the most interesting site at the Copley Mall was the Wearable Art exhibition of student designs from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Garments were on display on several platforms located near the center of the mall.
In the provided pictures, you’ll find my favorite exhibition, a platform showcasing garments made from unusual non-textiles such as matches, water bottles, paper clips and tree bark. The birch bark dress was designed by Jessica Tenczar. The next dress was designed by Fiona McTeigue and is made with matches and match books. The paper clip gown was one of few that seemed almost wearable. Finally, my personal favorite was the dress made from sponges. It was designed by Aris Segura.
