Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey heat up Idol- but not with their musical expertise

It is no surprise that the two newly appointed American Idol judges have indulged in a verbal altercation already. With Mariah Carey’s prima donna nature and Nicki Minaj’s fiery personality, a clash of the divas should have been expected, and might have even been planned. Ryan Seacrest weighed in on the incident stating on his radio show that American Idol needs a panel that will disagree and give diverse feedback. Although, I’m pretty sure screaming obscenities and threats isn’t exactly what he meant. GlobalGrind reported that Minaj lost her cool, cursed at Carey and ultimately left the set- but not unprovoked. Mariah Carey allegedly poked fun and made snide remarks toward Nicki Minaj until the rap star couldn’t take it anymore. While reports of the incident are swarming through the internet I just have one question- why is anyone surprised?

I believe this to be nothing more than a ploy on the American public to gain ratings. I picture a flurry of producers and writers scheming to make sure America will tune in at any cost. And America, of course, will oblige. With competition like The Voice and X Factor, Fox will stop at nothing to make sure their beloved reality competition keeps its ratings high. Cat fights are no exception. Personalities as strong as Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey have no option but to clash in the worst way. And let’s face it, capitalizing on the shortcomings of two stars can only result in one thing for television- better ratings. So to whoever brilliantly placed these two divas on the same panel, I commend you. You understand the psyche of the majority of the American public. Once again, the population has been duped into opting for a less than stimulating pastime- simlutaneously depleting brain cells and muscle mass while vegging in front of the television.
