The Great California ShakeOut
There’s always that one kid who panics and starts running around during an emergency like a chicken with its head cut off. Don’t be that person. Instead learn how to act during a state of emergency during tomorrow’s event, The Great California ShakeOut.
The university community will participate in this annual state earthquake drill scheduled for 10:18 a.m. to help remind everyone to be prepared. It’s better to be safe than to be sorry when the earth does decide to toss everything around like a frustrated toddler throwing a tantrum. The building marshals, floor captains and other emergency responders around campus will instruct people to drop, cover and hold on for one minute, while those unable to take cover under a desk will be instructed to drop and stay low while protecting their heads.
According to the event’s website, “last year more than 12.5 million people were registered in ShakeOut drills worldwide.” Join the millions this year who are practicing safety before the next big quake. This past August two 4.5 temblors struck just a dozen miles away in the Yorba Linda and more are always expected to come in earthquake country. So do your part, be safe, and participate in the ShakeOut.
