Out with the Old, In with the New!

Imagine walking in to your first day of college, all the hustle and bustle of your fellow freshman trying to find where to go. You open your phone to text your best friend and say “Oh my gosh, it’s awesome here!”, but alas, no reply.

Normally, this wouldn’t worry you though, right?
Right. Now, imagine she/he doesn’t reply for several days, weeks even!
Now, you’re worried.

This exact scenario happened to me when I began at Eckerd. It was crushing to realize that college was like a whole other planet. All my other friends had gone in different directions, and I was stuck at a place with no familiar faces. Needless to say, I was scared! All alone in this huge, new place! I felt like a little ant around a bunch of spiders. At first, it was really difficult because none of my friends communicated with me anymore. I mean, sure there were a few texts here or there, but it wasn’t the same. It was also hard to integrate into this new place and easily be myself. I started out with a not-so-great crowd that led me to an amazing group of friends. These friends, (I’ll call them N, S, K, and M) are now the people I hang out with every day, and they even live in the same house as me. It felt like such a dead-end at first, like I’d never make friends here and never establish my place in this new society, but I did! So, I want everyone who is new to college or moving or even just moving to somewhere new, that there is always the right group of friends out there waiting for you. You just have to always be yourself, even if some people think/say that you’re kind of weird, or maybe they have too-big personalities where yours is a quieter, more calm one. You can’t take every obstacle as the end of the world.

Just jump over it and keep going!
