Let the Nostalgia Continue: Disney Releases “Finding Nemo” in 3D

By Abby Kutscher on September 24, 2012

“Finding Nemo,” which made a splash in theaters again on September 14 after having been originally released in May of 2003, marks the third Disney movie to have hit theaters in 3D. The first Disney movie to be re-released in 3D was “The Lion King,” which came out in September of last year. The movie was a success, attracting young viewers, parents and nostalgic young adults alike. And it grossed 29.3 million dollars (cnn.com)!

After the success of “The Lion King 3D,” Disney released “The Beauty and the Beast 3D” in January. This film brought in an even bigger revenue, grossing over 47 million dollars (boxofficemojo.com). With success like this, it is no surprise that Disney decided to continue releasing some of its most-beloved films in 3D.

“Finding Nemo 3D” has now been out for over a week and has so far grossed over 35 million dollars (boxoffice.com). Only time will tell if it will beat out “Beauty and the Beast 3D.” However, Disney already has plans in the works for the 3D release of some other Disney classics: “Monsters Inc.” is set to be released December 16th, and “The Little Mermaid” is scheduled for September of next year (mashable.com).

Let the nostalgia continue!
