Whether your major is engineering, biology, business, graphic design, or English, you can get involved in the arts community at The Ohio State University. Mosaic Magazine publishes the art and literature of Ohio State undergraduate students.

Undergraduates of all majors are welcome to submit creative content, join the magazine staff, apply for leadership positions, and read the free magazine (available at the Kuhn Honors and Scholars House). Mosaic promotes the arts in four basic ways: publishing, organizing, promoting and connecting. The magazine is published annually, with selections created and chosen by OSU students. Mosaic also sponsors events such as art workshops and poetry readings over the course of the semester. In addition, they promote the events of other groups related to the arts, and host gatherings in order to connect the arts community on a more social level.

Events

Mosaic Magazine holds several free events throughout the year. Students of all majors are encouraged to attend.

Poetry Readings: Bring your own work to share, read a selection from a poet that you enjoy, or simply come and listen to others read their work. Coffee and pastries are provided free of charge. Professor and Protégé: Gain insight into a variety of artistic professions as you listen to art and literature professors and their top students share their work. Art and Literature Workshops: Improve your current skills or develop new ones through instructive sessions led by Mosaic editors. Come make some new friends and receive constructive criticism on your work. Magazine Unveiling: Socialize with other writers and artists and receive a free copy of the finished magazine.

Submit Your Work

Art and literature submissions for the magazine are accepted from the beginning of the school year until the end of the first semester. Art must be submitted as scans, photographs, or original digital files and can be composed of any medium, even digital and three-dimensional. Literature entries can be any type of short writing, such as poetry, flash fiction, or excerpts from a longer story.

Become a Staff Member

If you would like to be more involved in the arts community at Ohio State, you can become a part of Mosaic Magazine’s literature, art, public relations, or layout staffs. Applications are accepted at the beginning and end of the school year. Art Staff: Evaluate and select art submissions. Literature Staff: Evaluate and select literature submissions. Layout Staff: Contribute to the visual composition of the magazine. Experience with graphic design is preferred, but not required. Public Relations Staff: Promote Mosaic events and deadlines to OSU students and direct fundraising efforts.

Join the Editorial Board

Editors of Mosaic Magazinepromote, manage, and design the magazine, plan events, and help choose what pieces are to be featured in the next publication. Candidates can improve their applications by attending Mosaic’s events and by joining a staff. The most important trait for a strong potential leader is a demonstrated and visible interest and commitment. Applications are available toward the end of the school year. The following editorial positions are chosen annually: Editor-in-Chief, Assistant Editor, Literature Editor, Art Editor, Layout Editor, Public Relations Editor and Treasurer. Two individuals are chosen for each position, with the exception of Treasurer.
