Tired Tuesday Tweets
Facebook has slowly been taking a backseat in the social media world as Twitter has recently exploded. Tweets are the new status and most everyone winds up tweeting nonstop about their lives. Twitter, in some ways, resolves the conflicts of Facebook by first getting rid of the Friend system in favor of Followers. What this leads to? Tons of Twitter pages devoted to just about anything that anyone can start following whenever they want. At OSU in particular, someone has begun the new Twitter page craze with @TheOSUProblems.
This Twitter page devotes its time to all student life problems at OSU. Recently there has been a trend for “Tired Tuesdays”. What you do? Snap a picture of people you see randomly sleeping around campus or in class and post it to Twitter @TheOSUProblems. What does this accomplish? It pretty much is hilarious for other students and slightly embarrassing for those photographed. In a weird way, it shows how connected OSU’s campus really is. Here at OSU, is it weird to snap embarrassing photos of our fellow students? No. Is it upsetting to be caught in the act? No, it’s just funny.
“Tired Tuesdays” shine a comical light on what happens every day on college campus’ everywhere: sleeping. Naps through class, naps between classes, naps in places that are inappropriate, this list could be endless. Those people slyly snapping the pictures know that they secretly are hoping they don’t get caught, because everyone does it. The reason? At college there is a massive lack of regular sleep. Too many late night study sessions, late night partying, and all around messed up sleep cycles. While it is funny on Twitter, and for the most part is a good-natured way of connecting our campus, it seems that inadequate sleep cycles are an ever present issue in college. So I would ask my fellow students to consider: could it be heading in a negative direction? Perhaps all of the napping and irregular sleeping patterns could be impacting our energy, performance levels, and ability to make it to our eight a.m. classes.
Sleep is vital to the health of all individuals, so I urge everyone to take better care of themselves. Keep watching the Twitter feed for those hilarious photos (and pray that you aren’t among them), but also take care that you are maintaining a reasonable amount of sleep time for yourself. Otherwise, consider yourself tweeted on “Tired Tuesdays”.
