Falling In Love With The New Season

By Jasmine Lowe on October 16, 2012

The sun is beginning to fade behind the clouds, the Halloween candy is out on display in the grocery stores and the leaves are quickly changing colors before they fall into your face as you’re walking to your class. Everyone is now being forced to put away their bathing suits and break out their cute fashion boots now that autumn is definitely here. Whether you want it to be or not the new season is here, and with the changing of wardrobe comes the change of activities.

Here are some fun ideas and interesting things that you can do for fall.

Play Humans vs. Zombies

If you haven’t done it before and you live on campus or in the University Village then you must play Humans vs. Zombies. You’re missing out if you’re just planning on walking to school like a regular person without a bandanna on your head and a backpack full of socks. It’s seriously tons of fun and it begins Wednesday, October 24, 2012 and it lasts until Thursday, October 31.

Try Every Seasonal Drink At Starbucks

These tasty holiday drinks only stick around for a short period during the year. You can’t get a Pumpkin Spice Latte in July so I suggest that you get your fix now before it goes into hiding. Take the time to sample ever sweet and savory drink before it starts warming up again, because once it’s gone—uh—it will come back again next year.

Attend A Murder Mystery Party

Cal Poly Pomona is throwing a little murder mystery on Wednesday, October 24 from 6pm – 9pm at The Restaurant at Kellogg Ranch (RKR). Last year the restaurant hosted an exclusive, reservation-only dinner that gave people the opportunity to be chosen by the cast of the Murder Mystery Company – who hosted the show – to be an active participant throughout the dinner investigation. It’s definitely some new and different to try with a date or some friends for the Halloween season.

Go to Six Flags’ Frightfest

Scare yourself in the dark with deranged costumed individuals and celebrate Halloween by riding all of the rides. Cal Poly Pomona can get their ticket for 40 dollars in the games room on campus instead of forking over the entire $61.99 general admissions fee. It’s incredibly fun their haunted mazes are actually kind of scary.

Go to the Pumpkin Festival

Every year Cal Poly Pomona puts on a fantastic festival with a weekend full of pumpkin picking, horseback rides, games, music, food, and fun. The Pumpkin Festival kicks off with a pancake breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. and the other festivities will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, October 20 and Sunday, October 21. Oh, and did I mention admission is free?

Plan A Fright Weekend(s)

Are you bored and staring at the pile of leaves outside your window molding? Why not plan a weekend filled with random seasonal things. Go out and jump into that pile of moldy leaves, explore a flea market, ride your bikes and take beautiful autumn pictures at sunset, make a bonfire and have a late night picnic with cider at the beach, or have a scary movie marathon and while baking seasonal pies.

The opportunities to celebrate fall are endless. Just grab a light jacket, a friend and some ideas and go outside in to the cooler fall weather. It’s definitely better than sitting in a pool of your own sweat outside in the summer heat.
