Full FSU Experience

By Aurelie Mathieu on September 16, 2012

There are many opportunities at FSU. No two students will ever have the same exact experience. Every decision shapes our path and creates a story that is unique to our experience. My experience was highlighted by extra-curricular involvement and work experience. Some many choose to focus more on academics by joining honor societies, doing research, and spending time at the library. There is no wrong path as long as you do everything you truly value and enjoy. These were the highlights of my undergraduate career.

FSU Homecoming
I did not start really getting involved with homecoming until last year but it was one of my most memorable moments in my undergraduate career. My first year, the highlight for me was the Gym Class Hero and Pitbull concert, along with the festival in the student union (everyone loves free food and novelties). The other events did not catch my attention yet and the comedy show was not free so I had no incentive of going. The year before last, the highlight for me was the Ludacris concert. He knows how to put on a show and had the crowd very engaged the entire time. Last year was the year where I participated the most. From skit night to pomping parties with my organization, Homecoming just brought a sense of fellowship out of me. The only thing that was disappointing was the Warchant concert that year… No one seems to remember who came to perform, that’s how irrelevant it was. Good thing is, they redeemed themselves for this year. This might be the biggest concert I have witnessed at FSU. None other than the King of the South, T.I. This will be a concert to remember and I hope he lives up to the expectations.

Seminole Sensation Week
The week before school starts, Seminole Sensation Week happily welcomes freshman and returning students for the new school year. It is a three day festival where everything is just free. My freshman year I got a picture of my face put in a bobble head of my choice. I still have it today and it always brings me back to these great times. I was also able to get a hand wax. This year, I found my way there and came out with plenty of free things and great memories.

Cornell West
When Cornell West came to speak to students, I did not know what to expect. I have seen and heard him on television and he never really caught my attention until I actually sat in the audience to listen to him. At the time of his lecture, I was enrolled in a rhetoric class that I really enjoyed. In his speech, he tied many philosophical concepts to real life and I left that auditorium nothing less than inspired.

Through these highlights, I was able to appreciate my school even more. Florida State University is always making our experience worthwhile. These efforts is what keeps us going strong and we will only continue to go up from there.
