TAMU v. Florida Post-Game Debacle

Saturday was the first game for Texas A&M as an SEC school. Needless to say, everyone here in Aggieland was excited and ready for some football. Now even though we didn’t end the evening with a “W,” people are still going to tailgate. But before a few cadets could join the rest of the corps in cooling down after a long day, they had a chore to do.

As the corps members went to lower the flag, they were faced with a road block. A multitude of fraternity and sorority members had taken over the area in front of the administration building, surrounding the flag poles. When they reached the main pole, the cadets were faced not with kindness or thoughtfulness, just rude and obscene gestures, along with boo’s. Not exactly what one would expect for the keepers of the spirit.

Fortunately, there were a few cops there to get the students out of the way. In spite of fellow Aggies ridiculing them, the cadets did their job in a great manner. Maybe the corps interrupted the after-party of the fraternity, but only for good reason.

I certainly can’t say that I always support the corps. Let’s be honest, you can’t love everything about everything. I will not hesitate to say that I respect them, and what they do. These young men and women don’t need extra harassment from those outside of their units, especially from people who have no idea what it’s like to be in their shoes.

I mean, come on, we’re all Aggies here. Did y’all not pay attention when you were taught that Aggies don’t boo other Aggies? Do you not notice that those sleeping cadets in your classes have to be up before sunrise most days of the week, doing more of a work out than your little 30-minute-staring-at-yourself-while-doing-curls-regimen? Even if you don’t respect the cadets themselves, respect their position.
