6 Apps To Help You Survive The Ride To Paradise
This is the week we’ve been waiting for all summer, the week we travel from all over the country to be reunited with our favorite people in our favorite place- the ever familiar college campus. Like many of you, I will endure a long, painful trip back to school, and it will be necessary for me to be entertained for the hours through which I can’t sleep. So, here are some activities to keep you busy while you’re rotting in the passenger seat:
1. Hulu Plus
This is a must have. Watching tv is a great method to piddle away time. You can start a new show or go back through ones you already love (Arrested Development marathon!). Don’t have a subscription? Someone you know does. Maybe trade their Hulu Plus for your Netflix or a bag of magic beans.
Definitely not for the carsickness-prone (unless you’re pumped full of Dramamine), but for the rest of us, this app is amazing. It is a great game because it takes up time- it is fun, and it makes you feel smart and productive- there is nothing better than feeling productive without actually having to do something.
3. Sky Burger
Okay, this is the epitome of a time-wasting app. You tilt your screen around to stack toppings on a fake burger. It is nice though, because there are no words, and it occupies your tired brain with pretty colors and movement. It is also a crazy intense wrist workout.
4. Wanelo
The name has much to be desired, but the site is pretty cool for online-shopping addicts. This is a site similar to Pinterest or Etsy, with an array of hipster-y, cool clothes and jewelry and slightly useless but equally awesome household things. I can easily sit there scrolling until I’m comatose and drooling. You can save products (like “pinning”) to wish lists etc, but unlike on Pinterest, you have the option to even buy things. Dangerous.
5. Spotify
If you haven’t heard of this, you NEED to get it (also available for your computer). It’s music, FO FREE. You can also connect it to Facebook so that all your FB friends can see all the really eclectic, indie music you listen to that they haven’t heard of. But seriously, it is pretty cool, because if you have a friend that likes similar music, you can leech off of them.
I am not a horse lover, but I do love hilarious things. This is the epitome of hilarious. It’s basically a camera filter, but instead of making everything around you look totally rad, it slaps a horse on top of it. It looks super natural and really cool. It is perfect for those delirious moments when you just need to take pictures of everything with a really large, fake, and sometimes terrifying horse peeping in the corner.
I know that when you purchased your iPhone (or your other 2nd option smart phone), you were thinking, “This is okay, but what I really need is a way to take pictures of my cats with horses standing on them.”
You’re welcome and happy travels!
