What's Going on at Build an Ark?

Build an Ark Animal Rescue

As the summer comes to a close, the light at the end of the tunnel is coming into view for Build an Ark Animal Rescue.

Just after it was made public that Build an Ark could soon face severe consequences due to a lack of financial support, chairman and founder of New York Says Thank You, Jeff Parness, launched a nation-wide campaign asking people to donate whatever they could to Build an Ark.

With that, hundreds of dollars came in and thanks to the support from residents across the United States and a few residents of the Coosawattee River Resort, Susan Littlejohn is temporarily back on her feet. However, in order to stay in operation, Susan desperately needs your continuous help to maintain Build an Ark.

Apart from her financial situation, Susan is also preparing herself and the animals to be a part of the Wounded Warrior Project and to hold a Good Grief Camp with TAPS, the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, which assists veterans and family members who have lost a loved one in military service.

The Good Grief Camp is scheduled to take place at Build an Ark within the next year or so.

While Build an Ark is mainly a home to the animals, the Rescue also operates as the East Coast headquarters for Stars of Hope, a joint project of New York Says Thank You and Groesbeck Rebuilds America. Volunteers with Stars of Hope cut out, sand and paint wooden stars and then deliver them to children throughout the United States and the world whose homes have been struck by a natural disaster.

Alongside the construction of Annie’s House in North Dakota, a build that will take place this September as the 2012 project for New York Says Thank You, volunteers will take almost 400 stars up to Minot, ND to be hand-painted by the children there and put up throughout Minot.

These stars will boost the spirits of kids in a community devastated by a “500-year-flood” last July that destroyed 4,000 homes.

Lastly, the 9-12 Generation Project, a service-orientation effort directed toward middle-schoolers in honor of Christina Taylor-Green, is about to be launched.

Sponsored by New York Says Thank You and a large donation from the Christina Taylor-Green Foundation, instructional packets priced at $99 each will be available to every middle school in the US and will be used to teach the concept of service to students.

For more information on the 9-12 Generation Project, visit http://912generationproject.org/.

From there, the students will take part in a service project and will play a role in the Stars of Hope project.
