New Report Finds Only 2 of 8 Ivy League Schools Grads Earn Six Figures After 10 Years
As much as there is a debate about whether going to college is necessary, there is a question of whether it leads to a high income. According to a recent finding from The Department of Education’s College Scorecard, going to an Ivy League school does not guarantee or bank graduates six figures 10 years after graduating.
According to the data, only 2 out of 8 Ivy League university grads earned $100,000+ 10 years after graduating. The two colleges that stood out for helping their students earn a sizeable income were the University of Pennslyvania and Princeton University. Contrary to popular belief, Harvard was one of the colleges towards the bottom of the list and Students from Brown University earned a medium salary of $87,811 after 10 years post-grad.
According to the Yahoo Finance article, Cornell University graduates did not typically earn six figures but it was very close at a median salary of $98,321. The other schools listed were Yale and Dartmouth.
Even more interesting was the surprising fact that just about half of students with master’s degrees were worse off than before. They found that continuing education after a BA could not be the recipe for success that some may believe it is. The findings show that having just a bachelor’s degree is enough for some to find a decent to good-paying stable job.
Furthermore, the data even found that one of the most popular master’s degrees, an MBA, yields a low or negative value. The cost of going to grad school is being held into account when looking at the total value of earning a master’s. However, people also believe that earning a college degree has lost its charm over the years as jobs are looking for candidates with skills over exact qualifications. There are simply more jobs that can be done without the need for a college degree or grad school. An increasing amount of people are choosing to go the trade school route because it is also typically cheaper than the cost of going and getting through college. Some students can go to a trade school and start a side hustle and turn it into their own lucrative business.
More and more students are opting to go to trade school over attending a college or university. Students can find good-paying jobs such as becoming electricians, mechanics, plumbers, turbine service technicians, or HVAC technicians.
