Tips on Styling Your Home for Spring
As we head into spring, spring cleaning and freshening up your space may be at the top of your mind. Gone are the dreary winter days, so your interior should also reflect a brighter season.
Stuck on where to start in your spring home refresh? Welcome spring into your home in whatever way you can — keep reading for ideas on how you can start styling your home for spring.
Clear the clutter
First and foremost, spring cleaning is a well-practiced method for a reason. An effective spring cleaning session can seriously refresh your home without any actual stylistic changes and make styling your home for spring much easier.
Clearing your clutter can make room for spring decor and help you figure out which spaces need more help when it comes to a refresh.
Some spaces that may need a little extra love and attention can include:
- Closet and dressers: Go through your clothing. Do your clothes still fit? Are they something that fits you stylistically still? Can some of your winter wardrobe be stowed away to make room for a spring and summer wardrobe?
- Storage areas or hidden areas: It’s all too easy to shove something you don’t need at the moment into a storage closet or area you don’t look at regularly. For example, over the winter months, you could have been shoving things under your bed as a storage method. Take the time to go through these stored belongings to see if they still serve a purpose and how they can get stored properly.
Embrace nature in your home
For many, spring can be represented by all the growth they see in the world around them. Freshen up your home by bringing that growth into your home. One thing you can do to bring nature into your home is to place fresh-cut flowers into your home. Not only does this bring a pop of color into a room, but it can give you something to look forward to as a pick-me-up when you buy yourself some fresh blooms and practice some creativity as you play around with floral arrangements.
Similarly, you can bring in new potted plants for some greenery that has more longevity than fresh blooms. If having a green thumb isn’t your strong suit, you can always rely on fake plants or flowers to give the illusion of nature in your home.
Display brighter decor and mirrors
As you brighten up your home for spring, bring in more decor that is more colorful or bright. This can mean switching darker vases or frames to decor pieces with light colors or whites.
Make some changes to your wall art with brighter prints, new photos, and so on. Changing small things up every season can bring something new to the space and give you something to look forward to as the seasons change.
Work with colors that you actually will enjoy in your space. Spring doesn’t mean bright colors automatically. You can make a room feel brighter without compromising your personal taste in decor, such as settling with lighter pastels or neutral whites, beige, and gray.
Bringing in mirrors to reflect more light and offer a more overall bright atmosphere in every room. Position mirrors so that they can reflect natural light brought in by open windows to make the most of any room’s natural light.
Upgrade textiles
An easy spring update to any room can be swapping out textiles that embrace a brighter atmosphere. If your windows have fabric curtains, focus on having curtains that are lighter in texture and/or color. Dark, heavy blackout curtains can make a room feel more like a dungeon than the cheery, bright room that you are going for. A more colorful, or more sheer curtain can bring more natural light into the room for spring.
The same can be done for your couches or beds. If you had a heavy, darker comforter for the colder winter months, swap out the bedding for a lighter quilt as the weather warms up in anticipation of summer weather.
For couch throw pillows and blankets, choose ones with a brighter, more colorful pattern. These small changes can contribute to a brighter atmosphere throughout the home. You likely won’t need heavy throw blankets on your couch as the weather warms up, so swapping out for lighter throws or quilts can bring quick and easy change into your home.
Styling your home for spring can bring some positive change into your life, no matter how small the decor change may be. With these ideas, you can help yourself refresh your home for the new season.
