5 Things Students Can Do Over Spring Break

By Andreas Fanos on March 13, 2023

Spring break can be a great time for reflection, fun and adventure, depending on what someone does. How much fun is had and what is learned can largely depend on what students make from it and what they do. Tradition and some American films have depicted the break as a fun time to relax and go wild, however, there are many other things people can do other than just party. Here are five different things students can do over spring break.

1. Travel

It only makes sense that this would be the #1 option for college students. Visiting another state or new city with friends can be a fun experience filled with plenty of fun and relaxation. Lounging on the beach or exploring new areas and restaurants, and meeting new people can be a good idea.
It is long documented how many students choose to visit Florida over their spring break for plenty of nearby beaches and hotels paired with the excellent warm weather, especially going to a college in the cold northeast. California and other warm states stand as great options for students to travel to over spring break.

2. Camping
Similar to traveling, a group of students can have a good time planning a camping trip out in the wilderness over spring break. This can serve as a good bonding experience for everyone involved and will not cost as much as planning for a trip to another state or country. Nothing beats being around a fire cooking hotdogs or making smores.
Each person should bring a good amount of snacks and food for the experience and obviously tents. Telling stories around the fire can truly be a timeless experience.
3. Work a job or find another hustle
Those who simply are not big on traveling or partying, they can choose to work a job over the spring break for extra money or find another hustle. College students can find a local restaurant or bar that needs help over the break or work odd jobs for family members. Making some side money over the break can be good going into the next semester to accommodate textbook costs or just to have money to go out over the weekends.
4. Relax at home
After all the work during the semester and all-nighters that have been pulled, spring break can serve as a good time to recharge. Seeing parents and visiting home can serve as an excellent option over the break. Maybe some are homesick, especially if some are going to school out of state and miss their parents or siblings.
Almost nothing beats a nice home-cooked meal and time to spend alone in a place someone grew up. People can go home to see old friends from HS and talk about how college has been or go out to eat and share some experiences. Either way, staying home can be cool to see old friends and family.
5. Catch up on past assignments
Lastly, the 5th option for what students can do over the break is to catch up on past assignments. College can be a fun time full of distractions and work can pile up in a hurry. Students can take out time to study or complete past due assignments for some credit or complete work ahead of time if it is assigned in advance.
Spring break is truly what someone makes of it. All five of these options serve as something for anyone and can make or break the experience.
