End-of-Summer Activities For Your Nanny To Do With Your Kids
With summer ending, it can be difficult for your nanny to figure out what to do with your kids to keep them busy. You want to ensure that your kids are having fun while staying out of trouble, and having activities can help structure their day. Providing your nanny with various options can help your kids have activities they enjoy over the summer while helping your nanny know what is available to them. Whether you are looking for rainy day activities or just general fun things, there are plenty of options.
Library visits
Libraries are a great resource for kids as they are free places. Many libraries have activities such as story times and reading challenges for kids to do over the summer. It could even be fun for your kids to check out different books to read over the summer. Going to the library is fun and it encourages your kids to continue learning over the summer, especially on rainy days. You may even decide to have them do scavenger hunts or reading challenges that you or your nanny plan where they read a book or learn new facts in order to cross a task off a list.
Dress-Up
Playing dress-up is a great way for kids to have fun while learning about different types of people. While this activity is great for any weather, it is perfect for rainy days stuck inside. Kids can dress up as anything they want and roleplay as the character. You may even decide to let the nanny help your kids make the costumes out of old or thrifted clothes. Make sure to have things to do with your kids’ hair as well so they can get even more in character.
Board games
While video games are popular, there is nothing quite like a classic board game. There are plenty of board games that are fun but also have an educational component to them as well. These games are available for multiple age groups, so be sure to find one that suits your kids’ ages. Not only do board games teach interpersonal skills of winning and losing, but some games also require strategy or knowledge in order to do well. This encourages kids to keep learning so they can learn as much as possible over the summer. Again, this is a great activity for rainy days, but it can also be done when the kids need a break from physical activity.
Arts and crafts
One of the most popular activities, especially at summer camp, is crafts. Even if your kids are staying home with a nanny, they can still do arts and crafts. Make sure you have plenty of supplies on hand or give your nanny money to buy their own craft supplies to use with your kids. This gives your kids a chance to get creative, learn something new, and take pride in something they were able to make. Be sure to have ideas that are appropriate for your kids’ abilities, interests, and ages so they can be challenged while still having fun.
Karaoke
Kids tend to love music, so have karaoke be an option. Even if you do not have your own karaoke machine at home, there are YouTube channels that are geared toward karaoke versions of songs. You may decide to have a designated list of songs your kids can sing that are appropriate. This list can either be written or even in the form of a YouTube playlist of the karaoke versions of the songs. Be sure the nanny has access to this playlist if you decide to go that route.
Bake
Eating is a necessity for kids, and they find pride in eating something they made. Have your nanny help your kids bake something. Be sure to make note of any food allergies or other dietary restrictions. If your nanny has a few ideas for recipes, make sure you have the ingredients and other supplies available. Let your nanny know what the rules are in terms of what your kids can do in the kitchen and what is available for them to use. Be sure that the recipes are ones that your children will actually enjoy eating and have fun making.
Swimming
Whether it is at a public pool or at the pool in your own backyard, swimming is a very obvious summer activity for your kids to partake in during the hot summer months. If you plan on having your nanny go swimming with your kids, make sure they have their CPR certification and know who to call and what to do in case of an emergency. Also, leave rules as to what the kids can do and whether or not you want the nanny in the water with your kids or not.
Summer is a fun time for your kids, but it is still important that they have things to do so they can keep learning and growing. Having activities planned for your nanny to do with them can help keep them occupied and happy.
