Let's take a recap of Summer 2021

By Mariah Pearson on August 24, 2021

It is official. Our summer of 2021 is closing and the books are opening as school begins. Let’s take a recap of summer 2021 and the best highlights of it.

We can conclude that this summer looked a lot different than last year’s summer. Last year, in 2020, the world experienced something that no one was prepared for. It was a worldwide nightmare that will be talked about for years to come. Countries were shut down, flights were canceled, streets were empty and our favorite places to go were closed.

Last year, the majority of young adults agreed that summer of 2021 was going to be the best yet. Brandy Brown, aged 21, a college student who attends Sacramento State, had something to say about her summer experience. Brandy Brown stated, “Last year in 2020 was something I never thought I would experience. It was extremely boring to stay in the house 24/7.” California’s governor had enforced a mandatory stay at home order for residents to get a hold on COVID-19. Brown continued to say, “I made a promise to myself that I will make the most of this summer and travel like never before.”

Many young adults I also had the chance to speak to were able to say the same as Brandy Brown and “lived their best life” as they would call it. From big concerts, to parties, and other major events that were canceled last year due to the pandemic became the talks of the town this summer. One of the most talked about events of the summer was Rolling Loud in Miami which occurred July 23-July 25Rolling Loud is a hip-hop based festival in which a lineup of the music genre’s biggest and most influential artists come and perform in front of thousands of people.

According to an article in “Uinterview” written by Marie Fiero, Rolling Loud Miami tickets sold out within three hours of being on sale!

Along with concerts and parties happening, the world also got to enjoy the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games. Yes, you read that right, the games were called 2020 and not 2021. This is because the games were supposed to take place last year but of course COVID-19 did not let that happen. During the games, fans noticed that there were a ton of differences that would not have even crossed our minds before the pandemic. A huge difference being that the famed opening ceremony where we meet competitors from all over the world had little to no fans in the stands.

Summer 2021 was one to remember. It was an exciting thing to see our social media feeds filled with summer vacation photos from our friends and family again. We can all agree that we deserved it after enduring such a hard year.

Now it’s time to buckle down and get in gear for the new school year. Students and teachers are finally able to ask the all-time favorite question again, “What did you do this summer?”
