Local Artist Spotlight: All The Damn Action
A lot of people complain that mainstream music is too poppy and soft, that music lacks a certain edge that it used to have. The true music fans migrate towards the local scene were the music is still pure as they like it. While this may be a bit extreme, it’s true to some extent so it is my mission with this Local Artist Spotlight Series to bring some local Wisconsin bands to the forefront and get them some press and exposure because who doesn’t want that? The first one I would like to present is a band I met at a campus concert and actually got the pleasure of hanging out with afterwards. Maybe it’s because they are a lesser known band that they are so friendly, but I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt that they are just awesome. I sat down with Liz, vocals/guitar, Matt, lead guitar/vocals, Shotgunn Chris, bass, and Adam, drums, who make up All The Damn Action. ATDA is a four-piece pop-punk band from Milwaukee with an emphasis on the punk side. Now, I might be a bit biased because I love female vocalist, but this

band is much more than just that. Their live show is full of energy and excitement, it really gets the crowd going even if it’s a bunch of college kids standing around the impulse to riot is irresistible. For comparison ATDA measures up favorably to the first few Paramore albums with pent-up energy and aggression backed by a voice that is feminine but nothing short of intense.
LAS: How long have you been a band?
ATDA: Since July 27, 2010
LAS: What was it like being on stage at Wisco on the UWO campus?
ATDA: It was awesome to see people really getting into the music. A lot of times we play shows
where people come to see one band and leave but everyone was so into every band that
was playing, so I thought that was really great. It was this breath of fresh air to see people
embracing and supporting local/Wisconsin bands the way they did at Wisco.
LAS: Best part of being a band?
ATDA: Being able to impact people with our music, changing their mood or attitude or just
making them feel something is pretty cool.
LAS: Worst part?
ATDA: When people just don’t care about local music, it gets really frustrating. There are a
ton of really, really great bands in Wisconsin and most people don’t even know about
them. So, for me at least, it’s just being passionate about something that most people (not
everyone, but a fair few) just completely ignore- and they are totally missing out.
LAS: So far, what’s your favorite venue to play?
ATDA: I can’t speak for everyone, obviously, but we do like to play G-Daddy’s BBC on
Milwaukee’s east side, the sound is run well and it always ends up being a fun night.
We’ve played there a few times. UWO’s Wisco Music Fest was a really fun show for us
though, and we’d love to come back!
LAS:What would you say is your biggest goal as a band?
ATDA: Obviously, being able to do this as a full time thing and make a career out of it is our
biggest goal but it’s very hard to make it. I think we all just love making music and as
long as it reaches someone we’re happy.
LAS: If you could select your dream tour set who would you go with?
ATDA: Oh my goodness. Hard question; not to mention it’d be answered differently by all of us!
We all listen to such different types of music it’d be hard to say who we’d want to tour
with.
LAS: Lastly, any big shows or shout outs you’d like to announce or anything like that? Or
any last minute crazy quotes you’d like to get in?
ATDA: Today is the last day of recording a new 3 song EP at Howl Street Recording. We’re
really excited to get some new music out to everyone. We’ve changed a lot since our
first EP last March. I think that musically we’ve come together over the past year. Our
diverse backgrounds have blended together in our new songs in a unique way. The new
songs we’re putting out really represent that change
