The Importance of Early Detection for Mental Health Issues

By Danielle Wirsansky on November 20, 2019

Every student knows that the transition from high school to college is not the smoothest. There are always hiccups and bumps in the road for any journey and you cannot really expect less on the journey from a child to becoming a responsible adult.

But for some new college students, the transition is especially difficult. They might feel as though the changes are too much and are overwhelmed. They may feel like they cannot cope with the changes in their life or the new responsibilities put on them. They might not know how to handle the stress that this change has brought. They just might not be handling the transition well at all. Maybe it even seems like more than the typical transition-to-college stressors.

If this sounds like you or someone you know, these symptoms might be pointing to the onset of a mental health issue, according to a recent press release. You cannot diagnose yourself or anyone you know so it is very important to go in and see a mental health professional. And if you have any inkling at all that this could be the onset of a mental health issue, you should not wait to see a professional because early detection for any mental health disorder is critical. It could help prevent any increase in the severity of the disease, the persistence of the disease, and any other disorders from developing.
