Police, Border Patrol, and ICE Agents—the Most Oppressed and Underappreciated Minorities
(Note: I am a proud conservative, and this viewpoint will influence my article.)
The lies about brutality from police, Border Patrol, and ICE agents are endless. They deliberately target minorities, they keep children in inhumane situations, they are forces for oppression and racism…but what are the facts? It turns out that almost all the news about police, Border Patrol, and ICE brutality is fake news. Indeed, Police, Border Patrol, and ICE agents are the most oppressed and underappreciated minorities in the USA.
Incidents of blatant prejudice against police, the Border Patrol, and ICE agents are endless. For instance, just this past July 4 (of all days), a Starbucks in Tempe, AZ threw out six uniformed police officers after a customer complained he felt “unsafe.” On May 2, 2019, a couple trying to locate a missing bag were met with vitriol from an airline employee who made several insulting remarks (some of which were caught on video) to the husband after finding out he was a policeman; among other things, the American Airlines employee called the man a “killer” who might “kill me because he’s a police officer.”
In January 2019, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) trashed ICE agents in an interview with MSNBC, claiming that ICE was guilty of the “violation of human rights” and the “death” of children at the border. On October 13, 2018, the New York Times smeared Border Patrol agents by claiming that “more than 500” (of 60,000) of them had been charged in a two-year period with corruption-related crimes when the actual number of agents charged in that period with corruption-related crimes was 30. So, are all of these attacks justified? What exactly do the police, ICE, and Border Patrol do, and why are they being consistently smeared?
It is important here to define our terms. ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) is an arm of the DHS (Department of Homeland Security) which was formed after the 9/11 attacks to deal with terrorism and security threats to America, including from illegal aliens. Border Patrol is an American federal law enforcement agency which detects and prevents terrorists, terrorist weapons, and illegal aliens from entering the U.S. Border Patrol also prevents illegal trafficking both of persons and contraband. Police, meanwhile, keep the peace, prevent crimes, and capture criminals. All of that sounds extremely necessary and admirable—and that is without all of the incredible difficulties and dangers involved in the jobs.
The CBP (U.S. Customs and Border Protection) facilities described by Ocasio-Cortez as “concentration camps” (which, incidentally, she defined wrongly as being like Nazi concentration camps, which she believes are different from “death camps”) are perfectly decent facilities. For instance, no one is told to drink out of a toilet—there are water fountains attached to the back of toilets at the facilities with potable water. In fact, footage of Ocasio-Cortez’s visit to border facilities indicates that the rudeness was not on the part of Border Patrol officers, who were perfectly respectful, but on the part of the Representative herself.
Evidence from this and similar incidents indicate that Border Patrol officers are decent, hardworking men running decent facilities while trying to cope with overcrowding because too many illegal immigrants are trying to cross and demand asylum. No non-citizen has a right to live in this country or receive special benefits from it. Many of the “families” are adults who obtain children from human smugglers and gang members because DHS usually releases family units within 20 days into the U.S. A minimum of 20% of “families” tested within 4 days this May at El Paso and McAllen, Texas, alone had adults who were not in any way related to the children.
This is child abuse and human trafficking, and the Border Patrol is doing its utmost to stop this. Basically, DHS has found that the smugglers and gangs/drug cartels are controlling the illegal aliens seeking asylum in the U.S. in order to make large amounts of money, and horrific rape, assault, and robbery are perpetrated routinely by cartels on illegal aliens.
Illegal aliens themselves commit large amounts of crime in the U.S. In 2017, when illegal aliens were only around 3% of the population, about 14% of U.S. federal prisoners were illegals. Around 75% of the 2017 Most Wanted List in Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Albuquerque were illegal aliens. This should not be surprising—those who break one law entering the country are likely to be less squeamish about breaking other laws.
Hoaxes about law enforcement are endless. In 2013, more than two-thirds of blacks and whites were optimistic about race relations—and law enforcement. But the Trayvon Martin case, in which the Hispanic George Zimmerman shot Trayvon Martin in self-defense, began the ruthless bashing of law enforcement that has been going on in the media ever since. CNN and NBC “manipulated” Zimmerman’s 911 call to make him sound racist, for instance. The death of Michael Brown at the hands of a police officer was another story about “police brutality” which turned out to be a complete hoax.
Police are not routinely racist. Blacks committed homicides at around eight times the rate of Hispanics and whites combined as of 2016, even though black people are 13% of the population, so saying that police do arrest and shoot higher numbers of blacks is not due to racism. In my opinion, maybe liberals should try fixing ghettoes and trying to raise black people to a higher level instead of just spewing hate speech.
ICE routinely performs raids to target criminal illegals in the U.S., but these raids are “overhyped” and “over-politicized” and only involve ICE agents doing their duty by enforcing U.S. laws to protect American citizens (maybe more people should worry that American citizens are in danger). Of course, even Democrats like Barak Obama used to support ICE’s activities. In 2014, then-President Obama touted that he had increased deportations by 80% because he was insisting on enforcing the border and border laws.
Border Patrol agents are not any more systematically brutal than ICE. All they are doing is carrying out their duties and protecting American citizens by preventing law-breakers from entering the country. Indeed, National Border Patrol Council Chief Brandon Judd rejoiced in June 2019 because, after President Trump’s tariff on Mexico, arrests at the border were down 65% in some places. Border Patrol agents do not enjoy arresting illegal aliens—they want to arrest as few people as possible, in fact, because of the fewer arrests, the fewer potential threats to the U.S.
Meanwhile, all law enforcement—Border Patrol, ICE, and Police—risk their safety and lives. In 2018, more police officers died from gunfire than from traffic accidents. Also in 2018, the number of federal, local, and state law enforcement officers who were killed in the line of duty was 144, up from 129 in 2017. As of late May, 44 law enforcement officers had died in 2019 already.
As for assaults on law enforcement officers, the numbers are even higher. Assaults on police increased dramatically between 2014 and 2016 due to “harsh media coverage.” There were 48,988 police assaulted in 2014 compared to 57,180 police assaulted in 2016 (27.3% of officers). In 2017, over 60,000 law enforcement officers were assaulted, meaning that 10% of law enforcement were assaulted that year. This is unacceptable. Where is the sympathy for the brave law enforcement officers and their families who are suffering, partly because the media is encouraging lawlessness and hatred toward law enforcement?
In the 2018 midterm elections, 90% of black people and 69% of Hispanics who cast votes voted for Democrats. Democrat-run cities tend to have high percentages of minorities living in them—and even higher percentages of crime rate, poverty, and dedicated Democrat voters. For example, Chicago, which has been run by Democrats for decades, has a population 30% black (much higher than the national percent) and about 29% Hispanic. Chicago’s poverty rate is 20%, 8 points above the national average.
In 2018, 561 homicides were committed in Chicago, an astronomically high number (about twice the number that occurred in New York). Most of these occurred in poor neighborhoods where minorities live. Am I saying that minorities are naturally more likely to commit crime or be less successful? Of course not. What I’m saying is that Democrat policies are keeping minorities down even while the Democrats abuse law enforcement for being racist. It seems that the racists here are the Democrats—they seem to be perfectly satisfied with allowing minorities to continue to suffer from high poverty and crime as long as those minorities continue to vote Democrat. That should make every American outraged.
The truth is that all law enforcement stand in the way of thousands of illegal aliens and American criminals as they seek to obtain unconstitutional welfare benefits from America and practice harmful and blatant crimes in this country without any recrimination. This shrinks the Democrat voting base, which seems largely based on keeping people poor and dissatisfied. All of the statistics and facts point to one thing—police, border patrol, and ICE are the real victims of violence and prejudice in America.
