Ladies Night Special: two shots and a pregnancy test.
Okay, I feel this is the appropriate time to quote Zoolander (lets be honest, when isn’t a good time?) but here it goes, “I FEEL LIKE I’M TAKING CRAZY PILLS!!!” After stumbling upon this article stating that a bar installed a pregnancy-test vending machine’s in the Ladies bathroom, crazy pills were my only justification that this was factual. Pub 500 in Mankato, Minnesota is now the first bathroom in the world to house a pregnancy-test dispenser.
The article states, “Healthy Brains for Children is hoping that the message will ring loud and clear: If a woman knows she’s pregnant, she will abstain from drinking alcohol. In turn, there will be a greatly reduced chance that another child will be born with fetal alcohol problems.”
Forgive me if I am mistaken but, if it comes down to the option of taking a pregnancy test, isn’t it a little late? A condom, or even, dental dam dispenser would make more sense. Plus, the fact that it is only $3. How accurate could a three dollar test really be? This is just a bad, bad idea. Alcohol + positive pregnancy test = even more stupid decisions than usual. Healthy Brains for Children’s intentions, though they may be good, are not the correct way to encourage proper fetal care. Instead of installing a dispenser perhaps Pub 500 can have a trivia night for sex education?
Then again, maybe they are onto something. If I found out I was pregnant I’d probably want to be in a bar, too. On another note, if for some bizarre happenstance, the pregnancy-test dispenser does catch on in bathrooms throughout the world, I don’t think “Ladies” would be an appropriate label anymore.
