Amazing Outdoor Sights in Nevada

By Alejandra Restrepo on December 11, 2018

This one goes out to all of my Nevada residents. Originally moving to Nevada from Florida, I really couldn’t think about much that could be done in the bare mountains, the rocky backyards and the vast open Nevada desert. Well, as it turns out, Nevada is one of the most popular and stunning outdoor destinations in the US. Upon this realization, my views of the state changed and thankfully so, as I began to enjoy my residency in the state much more.

It is true that I was taken aback by my move to Las Vegas. Knowing that Sin City held a nightlife that could rock someone’s world, and that what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, I wasn’t too comfortable spending my very innocent teen years in a city that never sleeps. Going off to college in Reno, I came across the incredible and clear Lake Tahoe, the crisp-cold Mount Rose, the Sierra Nevada, and the amazing roadways through Truckee, Carson City (the capital of Nevada), and Reno. Attending the University of Nevada – Reno, my friends and I really supported travel and the conservation of the amazing scenery.

This is the tonality of some of the most recognized spectacles in Nevada. Like nowhere in the world, the red and orange rays penetrate our scenic views, bringing out the bareness of our desert, the stratification of the rocks and the scarce prominence of our sagebrush.

Moving from Northern Nevada back to Southern Nevada, I changed topographies again by re-encountering a less forest-filled area and coming into the bright red rocks and deep pink sunsets found in Red Rock Canyon. Beyond the amazing Las Vegas strip, the Hoover Dam, the Colorado River and the amazing chill of Northern Nevada, I was able to visit plenty of the National Parks that overpopulate our western hemisphere of the US.

Being hours away by car, I have been able to hike in Zion, which boasts incredible boulder rocks and desert mountains that hold the feeling of the desert better than anything. I saw the Grand Canyon, which was beyond anything surmountable that I’ve ever experienced. I visited Phoenix and Sedona in Arizona, which are other vortex destinations filled with crystal cultures, spiritual energies and incredible views of unusually balanced boulders.

Lake Tahoe is a virgin body of water, one of two in the world. White sand, gold dust, crisp snow mountains, and a sharp green forest to hike make it among the greatest destinations for winter sports.

Back closer to the Pacific Ocean, the drive from Northern Nevada to Southern Nevada can get exciting by driving through Yosemite. This side is filled with Northern forests and I had the incredible pleasure of seeing the giant sequoia trees, the unending waterfalls and clear cold lakes. The culture that protects our National Parks and defends the clean maintenance of natural escapes in northern Nevada is among the friendliest you’ll find. I fell in love with this area, especially considering the proximity to huge cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City and beautifully vegetated states such as Oregon and Washington.

Nevada itself has many things to do, besides from visiting small desert towns, visiting the Las Vegas strip and taking a fresh splash in beautiful Lake Tahoe. I like to hike through the dry mountains and conclude in a clean body of water. I’ve enjoyed snowboarding in Lee Canyon (Las Vegas) and Boreal (Truckee). Nevada, our silver state, has amazing things to offer, it only takes a little discovery.
