One 'cise Fits All?
When it comes to exercise certain classes are not for everyone and it can be intimidating trying to find the right one for you. This summer I joined LA fitness and the membership comes with a handful of class options. These past few months I’ve narrowed them down to my favorites that, I think, also give the best benefits without feeling overwhelmed. (Warning: you will be sore but that means its working.)
Zumba: My personal favorite. Tell me there is a workout disguised as dancing and I’m in. If you have trouble getting off your butt to go workout this may be the option best for you. Some instructors have harder routines to follow but the beginner’s classes are fun and easy. With upbeat tempo songs, you salsa your way to a tighter physique without even knowing it!
Kickboxing: Not for the weak and tired. This class is all about punching and jumping a full-body workout. In the hour-long class I was constantly moving and there was never a dull moment. Mad at someone or just simply pissed off? This is perfect for a personal therapy session without the shrink. It’s beating up an imaginary person and getting your anger out while you’re also burning up calories to the max. In this particular class it includes body works and abs at the end so it provides a full-body workout. Needless to say, I ached in places I didn’t know could ache the day after but it was completely worth it and this may become my new favorite weekly workout.
Cycle: You don’t have to be an avid cyclist to join a cycle class. You are encouraged to go at your own pace but the instructor also doesn’t let you off easy. Changing the “terrain” from hills, sprints, and riding it out, you are at a constant battle with yourself and the limits you can push your body. Its a great workout for your thighs, glutes, and pretty much your entire legs, in general. I was literally drenched in sweat when the hour was up. It’s an awesome cardio workout and I love taking this class as a replacement for a fast 3-5 mile run.
