Do you ever feel like a room in your apartment is missing something? You may have put all the necessary furniture pieces in a room, but the room still lacks the “wow” factor of the rooms you have bookmarked on Instagram and Pinterest. Look no further than your room’s empty corners. Empty corners are bound to happen, especially when you have your room arranged in a way to maximize floor space, but still, manage to leave random empty corners around the room.

Instead of leaving them bare and boring, utilize your empty corners and decorate them in order to complete your room and make space feel that much more like home. If you are wondering what the best way to decorate empty corners in your room is, consider the following the next time you want to update your space:

Install a few shelves

This method is a great way to decorate empty corners when you have a lack of floor space, but still have plenty of usable wall space. Give yourself a little more storage space by installing shelves in your empty corners. The shelves will give you the space for whatever your heart desires: mementos and knick-knacks, books, or anything else you want to display in your room.

There are plenty of ways to customize the shelves you choose to put in your empty corners. The finish of wood, the color of the shelves, how long the shelves will be, or even how you arrange the shelves. Depending on how large your empty corner is, a deeper shelf will give you more room to fill the space as you please. Have an extensive collection of bobbleheads to display, or a place to have the entirety of your makeup collection out and proud? Now is your time to shine.

The shelves will allow you to sneak in some more storage in your room while also adding more of your personality with whatever you choose to decorate them with.

Create a reading nook

This idea may sound a bit redundant when you consider the fact that you most likely will already have a desk for studying, but creating your own reading nook is a great way to create another study space. Some days, you’ll get sick of sitting at your desk to type out an essay and then when it comes time to do reading for another class, you’ll want to move the studying to your bed for a change.

However, it is more likely that you’ll end up falling asleep with your head buried in the book than be productive and finish all of your readings. Instead, you can create a cozy reading nook that you can use for both studying and destressing. Depending on how much floor space your empty corner offers, choose a form of seating to serve as the basis of your reading nook. A well-padded butterfly chair, an accent armchair, or even a beanbag.

If you can, try to fit in a side table or bookshelf next to your seating so that you have a place to store class coursebooks or your favorite novels and magazines, a candle or aroma diffuser, and a place to rest a much-needed mug of tea or coffee.

Incorporate nature into your living space

Another way to liven up an empty corner (or two) is to place a plant in your living space. There are so many plants to choose from and with a little research, you can find the perfect plant for your home and more specifically, your empty corner. Consider the amount of light it will be getting in the place you are planning to place it before following through with the purchase so you do not end up with a sad looking plant.

Scared of killing off your plant because you are notoriously known for not being able to keep any plant? Don’t worry because all plants vary in the amount of care they need to thrive, simply choose a plant that requires very little care so that you only need to worry about watering it every so often – no bigger of a task than your typical household chore.

The plant can vary from a smaller pot of pothos, or even a bigger plant, like a money tree, to fill your empty corner. On top of being able to choose the right plant for your space, you can also choose the pot you put it into tie-in with your room’s overall theme or even choose to a place it in a hanging planter to free up some floor space in your empty corner.

Do not look at the empty corners of your room in distaste. Instead, look at your empty corners as an opportunity to make the most out of your living space. Whether you decide to create a cozy reading nook for yourself and your studies or to liven up your room with some nature, decorate your empty corners to embrace all the space your living space has to offer.
