Whether you’re looking for a way to add some new, mature Halloween decor to your home or if you’re cringing at the thought of how in previous years, you transformed your home into a haunted mansion that would put Walt Disney World to shame, you will find that you can maintain your status as a holiday decorator of Pinterest proportions without creating a spooky, scary smorgasbord of Halloween chaos. Keep reading for tips and ideas for creating Halloween decor that is chic, stylish, and still spooky enough for the season!

Downsize and Minimize the Spooks

When Halloween decor starts hitting the shelves of every supermarket in town, it’s easy to get carried away in recreating your childhood. If you’re looking to stay chic and low-key this Halloween, then “big and bold” is definitely not the way to go.

Instead of buying an insanely large pumpkin to carve up and display, collect a serious of smaller pumpkins and make them into a cute centerpiece or a path leading to your front door. Instead of covering your entire home in paper baths and cardboard cutouts of witches, choose a specific area or two of your space and make sure your Halloween decor stays put. For instance, you could cover a side table in orange and black confetti and some ornate skeletons or add some spooky vibes to your dining room by making some long, vintage candlesticks and spiderwebs the center of attention on your table. If you want to create a chic and stylish vibe this year, your Halloween decor does not have to be loud and outlandish. Keep your decor small and simple to avoid a Halloween nightmare.

Make the Jack-O-Lanterns Ghoulishly Glam and Geometric

If you’re looking for a way to make your pumpkins unique and stylish apart from the rest of the smirking jack-0-lanterns around you, consider ditching the facial design entirely. Instead of carving a spooky face or another type of design into your pumpkin, try carving some fun geometric patterns and shapes into your pumpkin instead. This will create a really fun and original light source while also giving guests and trick-or-treaters a cute, chic decoration to admire.

If carving pumpkins isn’t your cup of PSL and you would prefer to make a decoration that is less messy, consider painting or gluing sequins and/or other accessories to your pumpkin. With the right amount of experimentation and creativity, you could create some Halloween decor that is a fun feast for the eyes.

Are you not a fan of dark and gothic vibes? Paint your pumpkin white and add some gold or copper accents and stripes for an elegant, classy Halloween feel. Do you prefer your decorations to have more festivity and energy than orange and black have to offer? Paint some geometric, colorful shapes and patterns onto your pumpkin to set your Halloween decor apart from all the rest. For the finishing touches, attach glitter, sequins, and other fun accessories to your pumpkin to add the right amount of glitz and glam for a fantastically chic autumn decoration.

Go Beyond the Orange and Black

Speaking of color, you don’t have to stick to the standard orange and black color pattern to have a uniquely chic vibe with your Halloween decor. Create an entire rainbow of colorful Halloween decorative fun and think outside the box. Create an entirely unique color gradient of skulls or spooky candles for a fun, spooky ombre effect. Venture outside the Halloween standard with other spooky Halloween decor color combinations, like purple and black, green and black, red and black, or white and gold. Make sure that the colors that you choose complement each other and don’t clash before you go above and beyond with stretching your inner artistic muscles.

Get Crafty

Craft isn’t just for witches. Instead of spending a ton of money at the Halloween decor store, stay in and make some decorations of your own! Sometimes, DIY is definitely the way to go and taking the time to get crafty will give you the chance to make some fun Halloween memories that you will think back on in the future.

Some fun DIY projects to try are handmade spooky book covers, spray-painted skulls and pumpkins, creepy cardboard cutouts and window displays of classic Halloween shapes (ghosts, witches, cats, and bats), and, of course, DIY ghosts and bats to hang around your apartment. Creating your own Halloween decorations by hand will give you the chance to create some decor that is both chic and fun.

Have a Masquerade with Monochrome

Nothing screams chic elegance like solid, muted color patterns. Creating a monochrome look with your Halloween decor is a simple, fun way to add an edgy autumn vibe to your decorations. Paint your decorative items a solid, dark color (like white, grey, or black), or add a little variety by adding different shades of monochrome to every object. If you would rather not make a mess with paint or other embellishments, look for fall items like white pumpkins and gourds or black skulls to keep up the same dark, spooky tone. Have fun with the monochrome look, but try your best not to overdo it. The style is best when it is an accent, not a center point of attraction.

If you are looking for Halloween decor that’s fun, but are afraid of overdoing it or creating a tacky Halloween nightmare, going chic is definitely the way to go. These ideas are merely scraping the surface of all the fun, unique ways you can give your Halloween decor some edge. As long as you remember to make your decor a nice, pumpkin-spice flavored accent in your space (and not the main attraction!), you will create an elegant, classy Halloween vibe that will impress everyone around you. Happy Halloween!
