We are at a point in the year when many people are moving into their new dorms, apartments, or homes in preparation for going back to college. These moves often mean that your loved ones will be kind enough to give you a housewarming gift for your new place.

However, in this post, we will discuss useful housewarming gifts you can ask for as you move into a new home. The gifts I mention are not only cute, but useful. They will make life in your new place much easier. Without further ado, let’s jump into the article and talk about useful housewarming gifts!

1. Step stool

I am only five feet tall, so the first housewarming gift I asked for was a step stool. Even if you are not as short as I am, a step stool can still be useful to reach extremely tall storage spaces. Trust me, it’s much easier to just pull out a step stool than to climb on top of your kitchen counter to reach your top storage shelf. A step stool will also make it easier to dust off those top shelves, too! You can even get a collapsible or foldable step stool that won’t take up too much space. Save yourself the struggle and ask for a stepstool as a housewarming gift. It will be useful even if you are not particularly short.

2. Kitchen supplies

Do you plan to cook a lot at your new place? Then kitchen supplies are good housewarming gifts for you. You don’t need to start with a full kitchen set if you don’t want to, or if you are not yet an experienced chef. A simple pot, pan, spatula, and knife is a perfectly fine way to start up your kitchen supply collection. You can cook most basic dishes with only those supplies. If you get high-quality kitchen supplies, you will be able to use them for many years to come. Clearly, kitchen supplies are useful housewarming gifts you can ask for.

3. Cleaning supplies

Chances are good that you will spend quite some time cleaning up your new place before you move in. For this reason, cleaning supplies are good, useful housewarming gifts to ask for. At the very least, you could use an all-purpose cleaning solution and disinfectant spray. Both of these cleaning supplies will have your new place looking clean and germ-free. (We don’t want to get sick now! Prevent sickness by using these cleaning products often!) The wonderful thing about receiving cleaning supplies as a gift is that you can use them for a long time after you have moved in. In summary, cleaning supplies are useful housewarming gifts that will keep your space neat.

4. Plants

Plants add a special livelihood to any space, so they are great housewarming gifts, especially if you are a nature lover. Plants might not be useful, but they can sure add color and warmth to spice up a bland room. If you don’t want the responsibility of taking care of an actual living plant, you can always ask for a fake one (all the beauty of a real plant without the responsibility!). If your new living space is bland and if you like nature, you should ask for a small plant or two to brighten up your room.

5. Storage and organizational items

Especially if you are living in a small place, like a dorm room, storage items are very useful housewarming gifts you can ask for. You will definitely need some storage items to keep your belongings organized. For example, you can use an “under the bed” storage bin to store your winter coats during the summer. You could also use organizational bins to separate your cleaning supplies from your hair care supplies. Additionally, storage ottomans are not only useful for storing and hiding away things, but for extra sitting space, too. Storage and organizational items are useful housewarming gifts because they will help you keep your new place neat and organized.

6. Coffeemaker

If you are a coffee lover, why don’t you start life in your new house with a new coffeemaker? A new coffeemaker is a good way to symbolize a brand new start in a new place. After all, starting a new school year and moving are both good excuses to upgrade from your single serve machine to a real machine!

Back to school season means that many people are moving into a new living situation, whether it be a dorm room, an apartment, or even a home. When you move, your friends and family might ask if you would like any housewarming gifts for your new place. If you don’t know what to ask for as a housewarming gift, consider my suggestions. Those housewarming gifts are useful, and will definitely make life in your new home much easier.
