Spring Fashion Trends to Fill Your Closet With

By Amanda Cohen on April 28, 2018

It is 70 degrees in Michigan (even though it snowed earlier this week), which means I get to finally write about Spring fashion… CAN I GET A HALLELUJAH?! Anyways, Spring is here and it’s time to ditch the baggy sweaters and thick leggings for something that shows a little more skin and doesn’t involve you sweating under layers and layers of clothes during your walks to class. Even though Spring is a time filled with excitement, laughter, and just a more carefree attitude, it can be stressful when you don’t know what to wear. However, have no fear because I am here to tell you the must-have Spring fashion items for your college closet. Read on my friends!

High-Cut Bodysuits

High-cut bodysuits are huge right now. When I say high-cut, I mean that the bodysuit exposes more of your side body. High-cut bodysuits are great because they can be worn with just about anything and you can find items that are extremely simple or items that are more elaborate. When wearing these bodysuits, I recommend wearing them with looser-fitting denim skirts, boyfriend jeans, or high-rise shorts. When purchasing these bodysuits, opt for three simple ones in your basic colors (white, black, and a neutral pink) and maybe one elaborate bodysuit. If you are looking to save money and you are in need of bathing suits, just purchase a high-cut bathing suit and boom, you’ve got a bodysuit and a bathing suit!

Boyfriend Jeans

Boyfriend jeans are the best. They are flattering and most of them are high-waisted, which is great when you are pigging out at a yummy dinner! Since boyfriend jeans are loose fitting, you don’t feel restrained and you don’t get that uncomfortable clinging sensation when you’re walking in warmer weather as opposed to how you would feel if you were wearing skinny jeans. Boyfriend jeans are also extremely diverse: there are thousands of different washes, you can get then with embroidered patches, you can get them distressed or not, you can get them in all varieties of bagginess, and so on! My personal favorite brands of boyfriend jeans are Levi, AGOLDE, AG, and Frame.

Graphic T-Shirts

Graphic t-shirts are so fun and they are a great way to express yourself. If you’re a comedic person, buy a shirt that says “They see me rollin’” followed by a picture of a sushi roll. If you are super into Bob Marley, get a t-shirt with his face on it (I’m actually wearing a Bob Marley vintage t-shirt right now). If you’re into traveling, buy a shirt with a beautiful view of Florence plastered on the front of it. With graphic t-shirts, you can’t go wrong. They are great to wear with jeans, overalls, shorts, skirts, or over a bathing suit as a cover-up. In addition, they are sold at most clothing stores and websites for pretty reasonable costs. If you want something more one-of-a-kind, check out Etsy for handmade items!

Belts

Belts are not only a winter accessory; they are very much a Spring/Summer accessory that should be showcased in many of your Spring ensembles. Obviously, you want to opt for belts that are lighter in color or are bolder (aka just steer away from black belts and/or dark grey belts). Belts are a fun way to accessorize a simple outfit composed of a graphic t-shirt and a jean skirt or denim shorts. Use the happiness brought on by the Spring weather and go for bold and exciting patterns or even floral prints to give a shout out to the beautiful Spring bloom happening all around you! Another great use for one of your bolder belts is too amp up your simple high-cut bodysuit that you are obviously dying to wear now that you heard they are super trendy!

Spring has sprung and it’s better (and trendier) than ever! You may be asking yourself, “Where can I find all of these cool pieces of clothing that Amanda just told me about? Well, I have a list of great places to look at while you procrastinate studying for your exams!
