Spring 2018 Fashion Trends
With spring just around the corner and warmer days ahead, its time to start saying goodbye to bulky sweaters and start saying hello to some new, fun spring trends. This year, there are a variety of trends that can be worn in many different ways and some that have been popular in the past that are coming back. This season is all about individuality, so there is no wrong way to rock a look and just because a new season with new trends is coming up, doesn’t mean you need to spend a fortune on a new wardrobe.
Here are some things to look out for this spring season and how to incorporate these trends spotted on the runway into your everyday look.
Bold Colors
I can’t think of a better way to ring in the spring season than wearing bright, bold colors. On the runway this year saturated primary and neon colors were a staple and are found in color blocking as well as in unique patterns. If bright colors aren’t normally your thing, try accessorizing with brightly colored shoes, or jewelry.
Transparencies/Sheer
Rather than wearing garments with cutouts this season, clothing with blocked transparencies is in. This look can be rocked in several ways; sheer tops are cute for going out. If you are attending an upscale event, gowns with geometric mesh details are very chic. For a little more conservative look, lace tops with a tank top worn underneath would be a cute way to do this trend.
Mixed Prints/Plaid
This season, designers have been breaking traditional fashion norms and are mixing bold prints. In addition to that, plaid has been a major staple on the runway. If you want to do a more toned down version of mixed prints, I suggest selecting one brightly colored, detailed print to pair with a simpler one with neutral colors. You can even pair a patterned garment with accessories that have prints on them as well if mixing prints on a top and bottom is too much for you.
Pastels
If bright colors aren’t your thing, don’t worry; pastels are in this season as well. Soft colors are timeless and aren’t difficult to find. Since bold colors and mix and match are a must for the spring season, I recommend pairing pastel garments with other pastel accessories.
Shine
Whether your wearing sequins or satin, metallic and shiny garments are in this spring so don’t pack away your New Year’s Eve outfits quite yet! Even though shiny materials are traditionally associated with winter fashion, I love the idea of wearing these textures in the sun. The light will make you sparkle like the star you are.
Fringe
For the past few seasons, southwest inspired looks have been very popular and this season is no exception! Fringe is fun and can be found on purses, bathing suits, skirts, pants, and jackets. One of my favorite ways to wear this spring is on the ends of jeans or on suede garments.
According to Vogue, designers this season are showing off their spontaneity and are inspired by debates of the world. This can be seen in the mixing of prints since it challenges widely accepted norms. Vogue also reports, “forceful femininity rules the runway as realism dresses the silhouette of the season.”
These looks encourage individuality and you should definitely take that into consideration this season. I personally tend to gravitate towards neutral tones and dark colors, but have made a conscious effort to step outside of my comfort zone. It is fun to mix and match and trends this season are all about that. No matter what you choose to wear, wear it proudly and rock your look. If you’re confident and having fun in what you wear, you might even become a trendsetter or the influencer in your circle!
