How to Celebrate Valentine's Day as a Single Lady
If you are a single lady, don’t fret about not having a significant other this Valentine’s Day and celebrate the love that you have with not only yourself, but with your good friends as well. According to RuPaul “If you can’t love yourself; how the hell are you gonna love somebody else?”
Therefore, take this Valentine’s Day to remind yourself how awesome YOU are by not only treating yourself, but by also spending time with your support system. This is the 21st century, solely spending Valentine’s Day with romantic partners is a little outdated. Most people associate the day with love in general anyway so why not celebrate the love you have with yourself and your friends?
1. Treat Yourself
You are awesome, hardworking, and beautiful; just because you don’t have a significant other to remind you of that this Valentine’s Day, doesn’t mean it isn’t true or shouldn’t be celebrated. Take this day to show some love towards yourself and enjoy a few indulgences that you normally wouldn’t do. According to Oprah, it is important to treat yourself every once in a while because “forming good habits can be draining. When we treat ourselves, we feel energized, cared for and contented.” If you’re struggling to find ways to treat yourself this Valentine’s Day consider the following:
- Pamper Yourself
Visiting the salon and leaving with fresh color and haircut or manicure always leaves me feeling ah-mazing. This is just one way you can pamper yourself without breaking the bank because this is most likely something you would get done anyway despite the fact that its Valentine’s Day. However, if you want to do something a little more adventurous, look into booking a massage or facial. I got my first facial for my birthday this past year and 10/10 would recommend. It was one of the most relaxing experiences of my life and left me feeling extremely rejuvenated.
- Buy Discounted Candy the Day After Valentine’s Day
My favorite way to treat myself every Valentine’s Day is by purchasing all of the holiday candy grocery stores didn’t sell before the end of the day on February 14. Quite frankly, even if I had a significant other who wanted to buy me candy for Valentine’s Day, I would make him wait until February 15 to do so because as soon as midnight strikes, everything is discounted 50%. It is honestly crazy that people still buy holiday candy before holidays because it is so much cheaper afterward. After you splurge on pampering yourself, keep on celebrating the number one person in your life, you, by purchasing Valentine’s Day candy once it goes on sale.
- Get Some Puppy (or Kitty) Love
According to Time.com, scientists have been discovering that animals help improve mental health. This is because animals can provide the social support proven to help anxiety and loneliness. Therefore, if you’re single this Valentine’s Day, rather than looking for love on Tinder or Bumble, spend some time with a four-legged friend and visit a pet store or volunteer at the SPCA. Who knows? You might even find a furry friend to become a permanent companion!
2. Make Plans with Your Friends
These days, the line between friendship and love can sometimes be difficult to draw. According to Neel Burton M.D., a big part of finding love is having a solid friendship. He writes, “Friendship is not different from love, but the best kind of love.” Your friends are arguably one of your biggest support systems, they’ve been there through the thick and thin, and they love you and all of your quirks. Rather than being down that you don’t have a significant other to celebrate on Valentine’s Day, celebrate the love you share with the special women in your life.
- Throw a Party
I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the ones you love than by throwing a party. Make some good drinks, play some good games, make some good snacks and invite all of your girlfriends over!
- Plan a Date
If you do want to go on a Valentine’s Day date, make plans with your friends to get dinner and a movie. Make a reservation at a restaurant everyone enjoys and then plan on catching a chick flick at the movies or renting a movie that you all watch after your dinner date!
Like I said, this is the 21st century; there is no wrong way to celebrate Valentine’s Day so find a way to celebrate the number one person in your life, YOU, and make plans with the people who love you most, your girlfriends!
