Winter Break To-Do List
Winter break is a perfect time to do things you did not have time to do during the semester when your workload was heavy. A break should be just that- a break- but you can also be productive in the midst of fun and relaxation.
1. Volunteer
Volunteering is a great thing to do over a break. Often, we get so busy during the semester that we do not always get a chance to help others. Now that your workload is less and you have some time to spare, find a cause you are passionate about and get involved. Many employers love seeing volunteer work on a resume, though that should not be your motivation for making a difference.
2. Spend time with family and friends
When you are at school, you may be far away from your loved ones. Even if you have friends on campus, nothing beats the best friend you have been best friends with since diapers. Most colleges have winter break around the same time, so arrange to meet up with the friends from your hometown. Go to the places you used to hang out. Also, do not forget to make time to spend with family.
3. Update your resume
Student semesters are filled with internships, jobs, and student organizations on top of classes. Life gets busy, making it difficult for students to find time to update their resumes. Winter break is the perfect time to sit down and make any changes with relevant experience or new skills. If you want another set of eyes, make an appointment with your college’s career center to help fine-tune your resume.
4. Try something new
Going to your hometown can seem boring, especially if you have lived there your whole life. However, do not discount the fact that there may be new businesses for you to explore. Whether it is a new store or a cool new restaurant, there is bound to be something new to do in your town or nearby. Use this as an opportunity to spend time with family and/or friends.
5. Catch up on sleep
The chaos of the semester can mess up your sleep cycle, especially if you stayed up really late or pulled all-nighters regularly throughout the semester. Use the time over break to catch up on much-needed and well-deserved sleep now that you do not have to stay up all night cramming for exams or completing assignments. This sleep will help you go into the spring semester feeling rejuvenated.
