The new year is here and it’s time you took a moment to stop and treated yourself to something truly special. Typically this isn’t the time of year that people go furniture shopping. But if you’re in the need for a treat, buying new furniture is sure to brighten your holiday spirits! Have you been eyeing a new love-seat you found online? Are you just dying to have the coffee table that fits your decor perfectly? Now is the time to really treat yourself to something you deserve. You’ve worked hard all year! It’s time you gave yourself a little pat on the back in the form of something tangibly eye-pleasing.

1. Comfy, sleeper sofa

A cute sleeper sofa would be perfect for your living room! It’s ready for guests to enjoy during movie night, and doubles as a place to crash when you need it. You can easily change out the accent pillows throughout the year to fit your ever-changing seasonable decor. Whether you decide on a pull-out sofa or not is beside the point. A new, central piece of decor in your living room is the perfect way to spice up your humble abode.

2. Invest in a mattress that’s worth it.

I paid $40 for my mattress, thinking it wouldn’t matter. But let me be the first one to tell you that a $300 mattress is totally worth it. I regret penny pinching when it comes to the quality of my sleep. If I had the money to invest in a better mattress — I would definitely do it. If you’re looking to treat yourself this holiday season, visit your local mattress store for some ideas! I can also recommend Bed in a Box, making buying and transporting mattresses as easy as 1, 2, 3!

3. Spruce up your entryway with a new rug.

Rugs are the most forgotten piece of furniture/decor. If you’re wanting to give a room a new feel but you don’t want to spend tons of money re-decorating, a rug is the perfect option. However, you should think about having to clean it every so often and keep in mind that lighter rugs show dirt much faster than darker ones.

4. Washer and Dryer

Are you tired of trekking your laundry to the clubhouse and hitting up the bank for quarters once a week? Do you currently have a washer/dryer set that’s not energy efficient and you’re paying out the window for electric and water? Maybe it’s time to treat yourself by upgrading to front-loading washer and dryers. Investing in better appliances might seem overwhelming at first, but you’ll thank yourself in the long run.

5. The perfect writing desk.

Desks are my guilty pleasure. I could shop for desks every day and never get tired of dreaming of having the perfect desk. There’s so much that goes into the set-up and vibe of a desk in a room. I tend to believe it should be the focal point of any decent room. Desk decorations should be limited, as not to overwhelm your guests or your writing productivity.

If you’re having trouble justifying your new desk purchase for the New Year, link it to one of your New Year’s resolutions. Maybe you aim to be more productive/organized in 2018. Maybe you’re planning to write your own novel. Or maybe, it’s all you can do to set the goal of writing thank-you notes after the holidays to your best pals.

6. A new television!

I hate shopping for televisions. Which is why the one I have is probably the most outdated one of the entire millennial population. However, it would be nice to treat myself to a new, LED television. It might seem like you’re forking over a lot of money on the front-end, but think about how many times you’re going to turn that television on for some entertainment. Whether it be the game with your friends or the newest rom-com with your girl pals, you’ll enjoy that tv as much as anything else in your apartment.

7. Accent nightstand.

Nightstands are so overlooked these days. Yet they’re my favorite part of a bedroom suite. I especially love it when they accent the room, and really make the colors pop. However, if you’re looking for a more low-key nightstand to treat yourself to this holiday season, there are tons of more subtle accent nightstands you can buy, too, that will still add character to an already-decorated room!

Treating yourself this holiday season might seem uncalled for…

But as you think about all you’ve accomplished in the last twelve months, I hope you realize you deserve a little gift to yourself! You’ll love walking into whichever room you decide to spice up with a new piece of furniture.
