A Review of The Amazing Spider-Man: A Web of Thoughts.
This summer has been packed with superhero goodness, starting with The Avengers, which came out this past May, and now with The Amazing Spider-Man, which came out July 3rd. The movie stars Andrew Garfield, an English actor who is most well known for his portrayal of Eduardo Saverin in The Social Network and his recent Broadway debut in the revival of Arthur Miller’s “Death of a Salesman.” Playing opposite Garfield is Emma Stone who is extremely well known for her roles in Crazy Stupid Love, The Help, Zombieland and Easy A. The two tackle the roles of Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy in this new take on the story of Peter Parker and the birth of the iconic blue and red clad Spider-Man.
This movie does not try to replace the past Spider-Man movies, but takes a different route on Peter Parker’s initial ascent to superherodom. Andrew Garfield’s adaptation of the role is not so different from past Spider-Man Tobey Maguire’s version of the character, simply with a different emotional background. Peter Parker still lives with his Uncle Ben and Aunt May, played by the extraordinary actors Martin Sheen and Sally Fields, and deals with the struggles of loss, love and moral standpoints. While it is not confirmed, rumor has it that with Garfield in the role of Peter Parker, the Amazing Spider-Man may make an appearance in the next Avengers film. This tribute to the new Spider-Man’s success cannot go unnoticed, as this movie had high expectations.
I attended the 11:10pm showing of the film on Sunday, July 8, 2012, attending the later movie simply because all other times had been completely sold out. My mother, sister and I decided to splurge and see the movie in IMAX 3D, an experience that I highly recommend for this movie. In the following video, I dive deeper into my thoughts on the film.
