Fourth of July in Tallahassee
If you’re new to the summer term here in Tallahassee, you are probably unsure of what to do for the upcoming Fourth of July holiday! I’m sure at home you host or attend major cookouts and shoot off or observe dazzling firework shows. Don’t feel like you’re going to miss out here, there is plenty to do with your friends.
Event: Celebrate America 2017
Location: Tom Brown Park; Tallahassee, FL
This festival is the most popular in the Tallahassee area. People come from far and wide to take part in the festivities hosted here. Activities for this event includes a brilliant fireworks show, musical acts, food from popular eateries, performances of the arts – such as dancing and a pyrotechnics show set to music, arts and crafts, beer garden and even a kid’s zone filled with kid friendly activities – such as pony rides. Parking can be difficult so free shuttle services are provided and are sent to the Koger Center, located on Capital Circle SE and are set to run every 15 minutes until about 8:30.
Event: LGBTQ+ Family and Friends Fireworks Meet-Up
Location: 400 Capital Circle SE, Ste 15, Tallahassee, FL
This event is located near the Celebrate America festival, for they wait for the fireworks show hosted by the Celebrate America festival. It’s hosted at the Hobbit American Grill, so you can eat and drink until the fireworks show begins not too far away!
Event: Celebration of Red, White, and Blue
Location: 4675 Grove Park Dr., Tallahassee, FL
Southwood is hosting their annual Fourth of July celebration! It begins early at 10:30 am, beginning with a parade that begins on the corner of Baringer Hill Dr. and Ivy Green Tr. And ends at Grove Park Dr.
Event: Fourth of July Celebration
Location: Wild Adventures, GA
Enjoy a day of roller coasters and animal fun at Wild Adventures for your Fourth of July expectations. The theme park is hosting a firework show at dusk that is said to wow their guests.
If you are more of a small event person, you could always consider the idea of hosting a party at your apartment or grabbing your group of friends and heading to dinner and watch the Celebrate America fireworks show from afar – avoiding all the chaos and the inevitable stress that comes with big events. Of course, such events are always fun to attend and I encourage the participation. However, here is how you could host your own Fourth of July event.
Event: Fourth of July Party
Location: Choose a location. It could be your house, a restaurant, an unoccupied park where you could grill, all up to you.
This is where you can get creative. Publix has deals on fireworks and many other licensed locations that provide fireworks for your Fourth of July fun. If you enjoy hosting, then maybe you should consider providing some food items for yourself and your friends. I suggest you cooking a warm meal like pulled pork in a crockpot or a ham with Hawaiian bread rolls and a brown sugar glaze. So you don’t have the entire time and financial responsibility to provide food for everyone, you could ask your guests to bring at least one dish to add to the food venue and before you know it, you’ll have a feast right at your own house!
For entertainment, of course you could have the typical music. But you could also find some great DIY festive game ideas for you and your guests.
Fourth of July is a celebration for the independence of the United States and its triumph over the British monarchy. The Revolutionary War was a long fought battle and if we had lost, the founding father’s such as John Hanncock, Alexander Hamilton, our First President George Washington, and Benjamin Franklin, would have been executed and quartered by the British. We would be living in a completely different government system and history as we know it would be completely changed. So celebrate independence day with friends, family, fireworks and an appreciation for your freedom.
