By Vivian El-Salawy on June 8, 2017

Whether you’ve been to a music festival before or not – a big question that everybody asks themselves when they start getting prepped for the time of their life is: “What do I wear?”. Well, fear not. Here are your 2017 music festival fashion hacks that you should know.

Flash tattoos:

Probably the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a music festival are flash tattoos. These have been really popular in previous years, and guess what – they’re still relevant. This year, flash tattoos with cosmic vibes are especially “in”.

Seashell crowns:

Flower crowns were a big hit in the past, but this year, seashell crowns have been rather popular amongst music festival goers.

Get the blues:

When it comes to picking your outfit, this year’s summer colors have been emphasizing blues – from teal to turquoise.

Face gems:

You can get pretty creative with face gems – and the best part about it is that it’s relatively affordable too. Cheap face jewels can be purchased on Amazon or Etsy, along with metallic tattoos, festival glitter, and so on.

Glitter:

Well, just spoiled this one in the last snippet. Glitter is a large component in music festival fashion. Whether or not you decide to go with flash tattoos or face gems – you can never go wrong with glitter.

Rompers (well, romp-hers and romp-hims):

Being comfortable is an incredibly important part about music festivals. So, what is more comfortable than wearing just one article of clothing and not having to worry about accidentally flashing anybody? Well, it doesn’t get better than that, which is why a romper is a great choice for both men and women.

Closed-toe shoes:

Going off of being comfortable, as cute as opened-toe sandals and heels might be – they’re really not the best idea for an outdoor music festival. Wearing cute sneakers (whether they are brand name such as Nike or Adidas, or not) or even flats are a much better choice. Boots even, regardless of temperature. Keep in mind that you want to avoid getting your feet stomped on, and since most music festivals are all day, all weekend, or all weekend things – you want to make sure your foot pain isn’t the party pooper of the festival.

Avoid bulky clothes:

When it comes to wearing tops – again be comfortable. You want to avoid being too bulky, because you’ll likely not enjoy holding all your layers of clothing as the day progresses (because most summer music festivals are HOT – literally).  If you’re going to a rock festival, consider wearing some old band t-shirts and cut them up in unique ways if you want to give them a new look. Playfully printed graphic T’s are never a miss, and crop tops/swimsuit tops are never a bad idea either. They are simple, but cute looks.

Cargo pants are useful:

So, as mentioned before, these festivals are called festivals for a reason – they are going to last a while and so you are going to need quite a lot of things. Cargo pants are good luck and they are great for storage. Having that many pockets along with whatever bag you decide to take (if you decide to take one) will pay off.

Bag it up:

Bringing a cross-body bag or a satchel with long straps is probably the most comfortable type fo bag you can bring. Some people also bring backpacks so that they can stay hydrated, but it may get exhausting on your back or feel overly bulky. Regardless of what you use, it wouldn’t hurt to slip in a permanent marker in case there is a chance that you can steal an autograph from one of your favorite band members.

Floppy hat:

Not only are floppy hats incredibly cute, but they are also so necessary with the amount of sun you will probably be getting. Not only do they protect your face from the sun, but they do a pretty good job at protecting both the front and the back of your neck, as well as even parts of your chest depending on how big your hat is. Floppy hats top baseball caps in terms of protection, and they’re certainly stylish and can truly compliment your outfit.

Lastly, the details:

Accessorize – belts, jewelry, patches, sunglasses, and so on. Check out some local thrift shops or consider some vintage accessorize from local markets. You’d be surprised by what cool finds you can dig up. Patch up a denim jacket, or even whatever bag you are bringing. Bring pins and put them on your hat, your shirt, or whatever it is that you are wearing. Music festivals are your time to shine.

Now, all things considered, what is most important at a music festival isn’t your appearance – it’s your experience. These are merely fashion tips. If you hate glitter, rompers, or the color teal, at the end of the day, you can wear whatever you want. But, if you are somebody whose experience is shaped by your appearance at a music festival – these might be some things you’ll want to consider when prepping for your upcoming, local fest!
