5 Best Places to Travel With Family This Summer

By Lorena Roberts on May 23, 2017

Are you looking to go somewhere on vacation this summer and want to take your family with you? I’d advise staying away from some places, so here’s a list of five places to visit this summer with your family.

1. Grand Canyon: Northwestern Arizona

According to Today.com, the Grand Canyon is the top place to take your kids before they are grown. You can explore the Grand Canyon by bike or by mule (but early reservations are a must). You can hike the Grand Canyon but plan accordingly. It takes about four hours to get to the bottom of the canyon and another six to eight to hike back up to the top — definitely a full day! Maybe a helicopter ride would be better?

While you’re at the Grand Canyon, be sure to check out some Native American dancing from the Navajo tribe as well. They perform at specific times throughout the day — so plan to catch a song or two!

If you aren’t up for driving to the Canyon from where you live, there’s actually a train that will take you! It’s called the Grand Canyon Railway and it picks you up in Williams, Arizona. Might be something to look into if you have kids who are interested in trains … or if you’re a parent who doesn’t want to drive.

2. Yellowstone National Park: Wyoming, Montana, Idaho

Enjoy Old Faithful’s beautiful eruptions every 45 minutes on the dot while at Yellowstone. This National Park should definitely be on your bucket list.

Be sure to also check out the Lone Star Geyser — it’s the perfect picnic spot! This geyser erupts every few hours, but it lasts for several minutes. Be sure you’re there to check out the whole thing.

Hayden Valley is another part of Yellowstone that you’ll want to see. Expect a traffic jam, but being able to see wildlife from your car will really excite the kiddos.

The Lake Butte overlook is the perfect place to end your day with a beautiful sunset. You’ll want to bring some blankets and sweatshirts and give yourself a few hours to really take in the whole view.

3. The French Quarter: New Orleans

Typically, I wouldn’t say that New Orleans is a place to visit with family, but the French Quarter, well, there’s nothing like it.

Check out Cafe du Monde and then take a horse and carriage ride around town! Your kiddos will absolutely love it. It’s also worth it to take a ride down the Mississippi River on one of the many water tours that are offered. The St. Louis Cathedral looks like a living postcard — you won’t want to miss that!

If you have kids in your family between the ages of 6 and 13, they actually offer kids tours of this part of New Orleans, called Kids QuarTour. Check that out.

4. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: Cleveland, Ohio

Are you a part of a musical family? Even if you aren’t, this is a place to check out! Make sure you give yourselves long enough to check out the entire museum — it’s HUGE. But even if you only have time to check out the free part — it’s totally worth it.

While you’re at it, check out the science museum and submarine docked close by! Your family will love it.

5. Ground Zero: New York City

This will be a life-changing event. Everyone in your family has heard of 9/11. Some may have even lived through it. But you won’t fully understand the impact this attack had on our country until you visit Ground Zero.

While this may not be the most happy-go-lucky trip with your family, there’s a lot of history and memories to be learned about. Your family will come to appreciate each other and patriotism will be seeping out of your pores by the time you leave. It’s truly a beautiful memorial. Highly recommended.
