Why You Should be Wearing Adidas
At this point in history, our country has had to overcome a lot of obstacles in the hatred of LGBTQ persons and couples. One prominent way that has helped break down barriers is the inclusion of LGBTQ couples in ads, either in television or on social media platforms.
While the inclusion of two moms or two dads has caused some to protest or even boycott companies, you don’t hear much from the companies themselves. They just continue to air their ads and go on as if everything is normal.
Adidas took a different approach. On Valentine’s Day this year, they posted an ad on Instagram with the tagline “The love you take is equal to the love you make.” The backlash was huge, but this company wasn’t going to take it sitting down. They responded in kind to some of the people who were outraged at the photo of two women wearing Adidas appearing to be sharing an intimate moment.
Adidas’ responses are great and really put people in their place. The company wasn’t afraid to let people know they stood by their ad and by their support of LGBTQ persons. It was a great moment that I wish we could see more of.
If that isn’t enough of a reason to support Adidas, just look at some of their charity work. Every year Adidas puts on the Silverstone half marathon event in the UK to support different charities such as Action Against Hunger, Alzheimer’s Society, Make-A-Wish Foundation UK, and many more!
Other efforts include support for refugees. On their website adidas-group.com they have this to say, “Our overall approach to support refugees follows our three-pillar model that is based on humanitarian aid, close collaboration with public authorities and external partners as well as volunteers, and the development of possible employment integration.”
Adidas is also actively involved in Save The Children, an organization that responds to disasters in the United States and worldwide in hopes that “By transforming children’s lives now, we change the course of their future and ours.”
Setting their sights beyond charity work, Adidas is also strongly committed to reducing their impact on the environment. They are 100% engaged to their Sustainability Strategy called “sport needs a space” that will address all the issues and challenges creating and distributing sports products provides. Their website goes into much more depth about their goals for obtaining sustainability, however, I found this quote most reflective of their goals: “Following the entire lifecycle of sport, our most holistic Sustainability Strategy to date supports us in creating responsibly across our entire supply chain, with tangible and measurable goals, and ensures that sport remains a source of happiness for all people.”
Adidas is a company that is actively involved in many charities involving the human race. From refugees to children in need to supporting the LGBTQ community, their company supports a little bit of everything. Let’s not forget their Eco conscious goals of reducing their impact on the environment.
With so much hate in this world, it’s nice to see a company doing what it can to give back and bring some much-needed peace to the lives of people affected by a variety of issues and problems. And we can never have too many companies who are focused on sustainability.
My wife and I are currently in the market for new pairs of shoes. I think we just found the perfect company to both support and have fulfill our needs. Thank you, Adidas. You rock!
