Spring Break Bucket List for a Healthy Mindset

By Amanda Olavarria on March 7, 2017

Spring break is rapidly approaching and if you are anything like me and unfortunately do not have any big travel plans for spring break, here are some ideas of how to spend your time to ensure that your time off is not wasted. Here is a little spring break bucket list to ensure each and every day counts and that you will be refreshed and renewed by the time you have to return to classes.

Get outdoors

Even though you may not be on the beaches of the Bahamas or Cancun, go outside. Make sure to take the time to appreciate the outdoors, whether this includes going for a morning jog or going on a hike with a friend or family member. Take advantage of the fresh air and what the great outdoors has to offer. Later at night gather up some friends or family and gather around a fire pit and share some stories and chat.

Exercise

Find a way to get some kind of exercise in. Nothing quite beats the feeling of getting your blood pumping, whether it is running, Zumba, yoga, etc. Make the time to get a little workout in to ensure you feel better both physically and mentally. Working out is a great way to clear your mind and give you a sense of accomplishment.

Read

Read a book. I know some people might find reading incredibly boring, but it is actually a great skill to be able to sit calmly and read a book. Reading not only allows you to become more patient but is also a great way to broaden your vocabulary. Whether it is your favorite book you have been dying to reread or a new book you are excited to get started, just go for it! Go curl up in a cozy corner and immerse yourself in the pages.

Hang with friends

Take the time to meet up with some old friends. There is nothing like meeting up with an old friend and catching up. It is a great opportunity to swap stories and fill them in on your life. You can talk about old memories and even bring up old inside jokes. It is great to spend your time with the people you care about and probably have not seen for a while. Life can get hectic, so it is important to keep in contact with those you care about.

Take day trips

Although you cannot go somewhere far away, take day trips. This can include going to a park, a local city, etc. A day trip gives you the opportunity to explore, all while staying local and not having to travel too far. Look around and sight see. Take in the experience and be sure to take lots of pictures for memories.

Set goals

Take the time to make some goals, both long-term and short-term goals. Short-term goals can be something simple such as fixing up your resume or completing your homework assignments, while long-term goals can include something like scoring that internship you have had your eye on for a while now. Now that you have some time set aside you can start to plan out what you want to accomplish in the coming months.

Adopt a positive mindset

Work on adopting a positive mindset. With all the stressors of school, work, and relationships, it can be difficult at times to be positive when everything seems so overwhelming. However, use this time off to work on gaining a positive mindset and work to limit the negativity in your life.

Do what you love

Lastly, do something you love every day. This can be something as simple as a hobby like knitting or writing, or maybe something even less mentally taxing like watching your favorite Netflix show. However, make sure you make time for yourself to do something that you truly enjoy and something that makes you happy.

All the responsibilities we have daily as college students can be stressful, so be sure to take advantage of the free time we have and unwind, that way you will come to school refreshed and ready to tackle the rest of the semester.
