Hot New Hip Hop and the Reviews to Find What Interests You
It would be a crime to let these hot new hip hop albums get drowned out by the rest of the news. Childish Gambino, Chance the Rapper, and Frank Ocean have all dropped new albums, setting 2017′s tone for a hot new hip hop and contemporary R&B scene.
So who exactly are these artists? What kind of sounds do they like to use in their hot new hip hop? These three artists do share qualities in terms of production — the music arrangements included layered vocals and synthesized hooks without losing each artist’s individual voice. These albums all include some heavy topics but don’t forget to lift up their listener with inspiring lyrics and catchy choruses. Moreover, check out to see who these guys collaborate with, and you can get a better idea of who their influences are.

The album features tons of faces you expect for hot new hip hop: Kanye West, 2 Chainz, Jeremih, Justin Beiber, Knox Fortune, JayElectornica, T-Pain and Towkio, among others. Photo cred: http://inyaearhiphop.com
Chance the Rapper — Coloring Book
This album has the kind of songs in it that are perfect for getting to that happy place or singing with your friends. From featuring Lil Wayne in No Problem and Future in Smoke Break to a rendition of modern day church classic, How Great, the album Coloring Book exemplifies Chance the Rapper’s with his unique arrangements and musical production. His sound is still the same as the first song I heard from him, Heaven Only Knows, and I’m left wanting more of that happy sound.

Backup vocals for Frank Ocean come from many different artists, including Beyonce, Kendrick, and Austin Feinstein. Photo cred: http://static.highsnobiety.com
Frank Ocean — Blond
Society these days can be hard. The music of Blond features meandering bass riffs and long organ chords, which can help a person relax and take a step back from it all. Frank Ocean’s album is an exploration of some hard topics for a lot: How much can we trust our own feelings? There’s Nikes to begin thinking about the answer to that question. Should I recreationally smoke marijuana without medical need? Listen to Be Yourself for some thoughts to consider. What happens when two people have different expectations for a relationship? Trust me, just listen to Self Control. Ultimately, maybe ‘mind over is magic,’ as Frank Ocean sings, is the best defense for those fighting against the millennial blues.

Many of the voices you hear on this album are indeed Donald Glover. He spent time practicing to see what he could do with his voice while including ideas and lessons from the elders and mentors in his life. Photo cred: http://theboombox.com
Childish Gambino — Awaken, My Love
Former President Clinton said, “Funk used to be a bad word.” For those seeking something different from hot new hip hop or Gambino’s classic rap, perhaps this is the album for you. There are some edgy topics presented in this third album of Childish Gambino’s, a.k.a. Donald Glover’s, actor for Troy in the series Community. For old fans of the artist, his vocal styling is truly unique in this album but only adds to the concept of Awaken, My Love. Between the first track, Me and Your Mama, to the final track, The Night Me and Your Mama Met, you hear tales and warnings of the good, the bad, and the ugly of the modern world.
Despite these topics, the album celebrates values of making time for those you care about and being considerate for those around you, such as in the line: ‘Really love one another, it’s so hard to find.’
Hopefully one of these hot new hip hop albums can help you find your next song you keep on repeat or be your entrance into a whole new genre.
