Body Hair Removal: A Woman's Choice

By Ellie Drabnis on November 16, 2016

Sugar waxing, threading, laser removal, plain old shaving or any combination of these are some of the many ways that women choose to remove hair from their bodies. And, assuming that women out there are choosing to do so, that is their prerogative and no one should intrude.

There are anti-makeup wearing movements floating around and now there are popular anti-body hair removal movements as well.

Do we ladies ever catch a break?

It seems everyone tries to tell women how they should look when they really need to stop it.

Just like in the case of makeup, removing or not removing body hair comes down to the individual herself.

Many celebs such as Miley Cyrus and Madonna are not for removing their armpit hair. That is their personal choice. Having their pits be hairy rather than not is empowering to them.

But, having visible hair is not empowering to others. This is similar to the way how some see empowerment in making a bolder statement with their clothing or lack thereof while modesty empowers others. It all comes down to a case by case basis and what everyone would like to look like.

However, where the problem arises is when anyone attempts to tell a woman how she should or shouldn’t look.

Another problem that comes up is that many people assume that women are removing their body hair for their significant other. That is a very wrong and hurtful idea.

One’s boyfriend or girlfriend should not even try dictating to them how they should dress let alone how they maintain their body.

Ladies, you are perfect the way you are, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

Sure, there’s nothing wrong with doting on your sweetheart when they’re sick, but don’t outright tell them how to live their life. That gets both of you nowhere and let’s say someone is single: they are still not removing or keeping their body hair in order to gain the attention of a potential suitor.

Removal of body hair or the choice to keep it is part of what makes someone feel comfortable. It is one of the many things that uniquely makes someone who they are. Men never get any flack for having shaved or not. So, why do women?

Actually, I think I can answer that: there is some impossible ideal/standard of ‘what makes the perfect woman’ and that is honestly a load of garbage. What truly makes a perfect woman is one who is comfortable enough in her own skin to proudly stand by her personal choices.

Ladies, what I’m getting at is: removing your body hair comes down to you and only you. Don’t let anyone try to tell you otherwise.
