Texas Is Bigger Than What I Expected
Recently I was blessed to have taken a trip to Texas. I was there to see someone close to me graduate Airforce BMT. It was a beautiful ceremony and graduation but of course the time there was on a strict schedule.
Outside of the Lackland Air Force Base I was able to do a little sightseeing. Texas is beautiful not only visually but historically as well. However, I was not able to visit much historically but on my next adventure I will definitely make it a point to. Furthermore I enjoyed the time I spent at the River Walk and the people I met in San Antonio Downtown.
The first thing I was able to see was the River Walk in San Antonio Downtown. When coming upon the River Walk you actually go down a set of stairs and it seems as if it is an underground world. The river is wide and allows for these decorative tour boats to seamlessly flow along the river path. The tour guides tell all about the history and the significance of the river. The mood by the river is also quite relaxing as you can walk along the river, hop into the nearest tour boat, or sit and enjoy a welcoming restaurant experience.
Oh yes! Food! There are so many different cuisines to pick from. The range is so wide but from what I saw there are German, Spanish, Texas style, and a couple others.
Secondly, I guess out of luck this was a busy time to come into Texas because I was there for the Day of the Dead Festivities and a Comic-Con Event. This was my first time seeing the festivities in person. It came off as a Halloween/cultural experience. The outfits were pretty similar; a flowy Spanish dress is what I could best describe it as. The mood was exciting as well as fearful. The faces were all decorated with paint. In all it is a day to celebrate loved ones that have died. It reminded me that there are cultures where instead of crying at funerals there are actually celebrations. I think it is pretty neat. I could see how someone who has passed does not want everyone to stand around feeling depressed but to be happy that there was a great relationship formed before the tragic event happened. Personally I have never been to a Comic-Con event but I have a best friend who tells me that they are amazing, so it is definitely on my Bucket List.
All in all everyone should take a trip to Texas at least once.
