10 Fashion Trends Happening Right Now

By Blake Egozi on October 2, 2016

In 2016 the fashion trends seem to change just as fast as Taylor Swift’s relationships. While some fashion crazes are brand new, others take us back in time. Man buns and flash tattoos came and went. We’ve seen the rebirth of jean skirts, graphic tees, and ripped jeans. The great thing about living in 2016 is that almost anything goes as long as you keep your Crocs tucked away in the back of your closet.

While there have been a variety of fashion styles this year, there are some really fun and exciting ones happening right now.

1. Baseball Caps

One of the best and easiest ways to accessorize any outfit is with a simple baseball hat. You don’t need to be out in the sun to rock one of these accessories. These can be found at almost any store right now in a variety of colors branded with a cute slogan or picture.

Having a bad hair day? This cute trend solves your problem while making you look extremely cool and fashionable.

2. Vintage Tees

It’s time to go searching through your mom or dad’s closets. Vintage tees are back and trendier than ever. Find a real vintage T-shirt at a second-hand store or go buy a new distressed one. Band tees are especially popular right now and can be found in stores from Walmart to high-end boutiques.

3. Chokers

Chokers, chokers, and more chokers. Everyone wears them and everyone looks great in them. Chokers flawlessly dress up any look. These can be found in a variety of styles from plain black to multicolored with charms. Add this accessory for a grunge look or go for a more classy and dainty style. Another great benefit of a choker is that they can be found for a really low price or you can even go make your own! All you need is a thin piece of material and a clasp.

4. Sneakers

A girl can never have too many shoes. Sneakers are cool, casual, and comfortable. 2016 has been a huge year for shoes with the introduction of new styles such as Kanye West’s Adidas Yeezy’s and Rihanna’s new Fenty Puma line. Old sneaker styles have also made a comeback. You can’t go wrong with classic hi-top Vans or Adidas Superstars. These sneakers will add flair to any outfit and you’ll be sure to get a few compliments.

5. French Braids

Crazy haired girls rejoice! French braids are in and are a sure fire way to tame that wild hair while looking chic and sophisticated. Sport them to the gym or out to the bar. French braids can be worn anytime and anywhere. The best part of this trend is that it’s completely free as long as you have access to some YouTube tutorial videos.

6. Jean Skirts

If you love the style of the ’90s then you will absolutely love the rebirth of jean skirts. While the classic jean skirt is back, 2016 has spiced it up a bit. Popular types of jean skirts can be found with buttons, multicolored, with tears and at all different lengths.

7. Lace-up Tee

Lace-up tees are a huge trend happening right now. This style is extremely prevalent and can be seen from basic cropped lace up shirts to laced band tees. These can be found in trendy boutiques like LF or your average Forever 21 store. You can even check out YouTube tutorials if you feel brave enough to try and make your own.

8. Boyfriend Jeans

Along with the resurfacing of ripped jeans, boyfriend jeans have come back with a vengeance. Unfortunately, you probably won’t be able to find these in your boyfriend’s closet. Fortunately, these jeans are comfortable and extremely cool looking. Pair these baggy jeans with a band t-shirt and some white vans for a cool grunge look or dress them up with heels for a night out.

9. Brand Names

Brand names have been in and out of style for decades. The 2000s saw an abundance of Abercrombie and Fitch logo tees and the notorious Juicy track suits. In 2016, brands like Adidas, Nike, and Calvin Klein have made displaying brand names on clothes cool again. While you might be too embarrassed to wear your old Abercrombie moose t-shirt, you’ll definitely proudly wear your Adidas logo tee.

10. Neutral Colors

Color schemes are a huge part of fashion trends. Today, we have Kanye West to thank for the current neutral color trend. Shades of tan, white, black, gray, and the occasional camo print are the most popular colors being worn right now. Luckily for everyone, neutral colors mean everything matches. Stores like Pac Sun are capitalizing on this color trend with tons of neutral colored options.
