Hat Syndrome ... It's Far Too Real!
Girls, have you ever seen a guy bro-ing it out on the beach or at a party? He’s wearing a hat turned backwards, and maybe even his newest Ray-Bans, and you find yourself attracted instantly? We’ve all been there; I personally have been there too many times. The problem with boys who wear hats and sunglasses is they hide flaws and usually for the best. Let me explain.
Two years ago, I went to a party with my best friend and there was this guy there who I had a brief encounter with in the previous year who I had always thought was hot. He also always wore a backwards hat to every party. After that night, I’m scrolling through his Instagram and see a photo of him without a hat on and I can’t help but think, “Were my beer goggles on that whole night?”
The answer is no. His hat just covered up a really bad haircut.
After that night we coined the term HAT SYNDROME: when an attractive guy is wearing a hat, sunglasses, or any other accessory that may hide physical flaws and when accessories are taken off, drops by at least one point on the attractiveness scale; most guys seem to drop an average of three.
So how does this affect my life and many other girls around the world? We’ve become more skeptical of every guy who wears a hat. We say things like, “He’s hot, but he’s wearing a hat.” Our faith in men has decreased and for that we are single, always guessing what lies under the hat.
But I still can’t help but think, “Is this how guys feel about girls who wear a lot of makeup?” Probably, but I actually haven’t been that deep in my research yet.
So what can us girls do to see behind the hat and shades? You could be that annoying girl who steals his hat and shades as a way of flirting, but many boys don’t like that. So you just have to take a leap and talk to him, maybe even flirt just in case there are beautiful eyes under those Ray-Bans or his hair is what dreams are made of.
But boys, make it easier on us girls and don’t make hats a staple, especially if you know you’re gorgeous. These unnecessary accessories (especially if you are inside at a party) just make us more skeptical and less likely to approach.
So just know that if you are a guy, and wear a hat, the first thing a girl will think is, “I wonder if he suffers from hat syndrome?”
