Summer is here, which means sunshine, barbecues, popsicles, and more; but it also means it’s truly time to change up some features in your apartment or house and get your indoors in sync with the season. If you haven’t already made some changes around your home to freshen up for spring, you’ll definitely want to implement these changes to add some summer touches around your apartment or house.
Here are some ways to bring summer indoors and make your home feel and look ready for summer.
Add some nautical touches. Nautical decor is something we usually associate with summer and will add a cool, laid back summery feel to any room. Consider adding some nautical accent pieces, like a ship in a bottle, coral, star-shaped pieces, seashells, and more to your bedroom or living room to give it a more summery look. You can also always go with accessories or artwork with a nautical theme, like anchors, starfish, or the ocean, if you want to more easily add a nautical touch to your rooms.
Change your linens. You may not have more than one set of bedding in your apartment or house but investing in some new bedding for summer isn’t too costly — especially if you’ve already got sheet sets to match. Colorful, new bedding can really brighten up your room and mood and make your bedroom feel more summery.
Your winter bedding and sheets are probably heavier, darker, or flannel but you don’t really need that level of warmth or material on your bed during the summer. Instead, store it under your bed or somewhere in your closet for the season to make way for your fresh and cheerful summer comforter. Consider sticking to lighter fabrics and buying floral designs or other bright colors that make you think of summer and which will cheer up your room for the season.
Add plants or flowers. Flowers are in full bloom during the summer and there’s nothing like seeing and smelling flowers and other plants around your home to make you feel like the season has truly arrived. Pick yourself some flowers outside and put in a pretty vase or buy some buds or another type of plant and infuse your apartment or house with some nature and greenery. To really brighten up a room, choose colorful flowers or a plant that’s more than just green leaves so your space looks more lively and vivid. If you have a fireplace, you can even put a large plant or bouquet of flowers in it since you won’t be using it for a while. Just make sure whatever plants you have are watered accordingly and placed near sunlight!
Bring in some color. Summer is the perfect time to add energy and color to your home. It’s easy to swap accents and accessories and declutter your rooms some so they feel airier and more summery. New brightly colored pillows or towels can bring some pop to your home and make it more cheerful and vibrant. You can also put away your heavier throw blankets (and bring out lighter ones if you have them) and add some other fun and colorful accents to liven up your rooms.
Switch your decor. A quick and fun way to brighten up a room and get it ready for summer is to switch out some decor and art. Consider adding some lighter colored artwork or more floral and bright colored photographs to your living space. There are lots of inexpensive and fun options for doing so — you can get a large print of a cool photograph you took, buy a colorful canvas art piece, or put up a poster with a map of the world or some other bright artwork.
Embrace natural light. Summer boasts long days, which means those lengthier evenings are the perfect time to sit back in a chair and enjoy the last rays of the day’s light. If you have a chair in your room, move it so it’s closer to a window, and if you don’t, you may want to consider creating a small relaxing space — using pillows or a comfy chair — where you can soak in the natural light and curl up with a good book or glass of wine in the evenings.
Adding summer touches to your home doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive — simply choose a few ways you want to infuse your apartment or house with summer and start bringing the season indoors. When your home reflects the season and feels and looks more bright, cheerful, and summery, you’ll really start to feel it and it’ll be like it’s summer all the time — both inside and outside.
