How to Have Fun This Summer Even if You Are in Class

By Brooke Tideman on May 11, 2016

Summer is here and we all want to go out on tons of adventures with our friends. However, many of us are still on campus taking our summer classes. So how do we manage to go to class, do our assignments, study for tests, and still have some fun?

Schedule

The first thing you need to do if you plan on balancing school and good times is to get organized. Look through the syllabus for any classes you are taking this semester and write down every important date you see listed on a sheet of paper or on your laptop, then explain what is important about that date. Once you have all of your important dates listed out in one place for you to see you can organize them in a calendar, agenda, or planner so you can see the things you have to do on the days they are due.

By doing this you are able to visualize the time you will need to set aside each week so that you can accomplish all of the school tasks you have to do. Visualizing this makes it a lot easier for you to see how much time you have for adventures.

Adventures to Have

Now that you have created a schedule and have figured out how much time you have to go have a blast with friends this summer, it is time to decide what to do. Thankfully we live in Tallahassee and there is plenty to do here as well as in the surrounding areas. A great thing to do during the summer is to go out and enjoy nature!

If you like to kayak surrounded by the beauty of nature with the slight chance of spotting some Florida wildlife, then you should definitely take a day and head over to Wakulla River. You’ll see amazing trees, wildlife such as the American alligator, and of course other kayakers.

A place you could check out right in Tallahassee is the FSU Reservation. It is a great place to go relax with friends. You can go swimming in Lake Bradford and you can even go kayaking, canoeing, or stand-up paddle boarding. Bring your friends and have a cookout together; maybe catch a game of sand volleyball, horseshoes, corn hole, spike ball, or some disc golf. No matter what you do at the Reservation you are sure to have a good time, so stop by this summer – after all it is free for to you if you show a valid FSUCard and it is only $2 for anyone else!

Other outdoor activities you are sure to enjoy are exploring Florida Caverns State Park or go tubing at Bear Paw.

Another great way to spend some of your summer with your friends while at school is to go to some of the amazing restaurants in Tallahassee. A lot of the restaurants here are known for having great food as well as a great atmosphere, plus most of them have really amazing events for you to participate in.

If you are into trivia and good food, then you should head on over to Madison Social. Every Tuesday they have a new Trivia subject for you and your friends to crush. You can check out Brass Tap in Midtown if you like live music, which they bring to you every Friday and Saturday night, and if you like karaoke then this is the place to be since every Thursday is karaoke night. Check out their websites to see even more events for you and your friends to head out to!

Remember to stay organized and space your time wisely, because without that you might have a hard time balancing fun and school!
