What To Do When You Feel Like Giving Up

Life can get tough sometimes and there will be days where you will wake up and say to yourself “I give up”. We all have those days and to be honest, they’re not very easy to deal with when you have a lot going on. Throwing in the towel and calling quits is easier to do sometimes but if you just push yourself and stick it out, the results will be more rewarding. So what should you do when you feel like you are giving up? Here are some tips that will hopefully help you finish what you started:

 1. Remember why you started.

It’s easy to lose sight of a goal or why you began to do something in the first place, this is why it is important to always remind yourself why you started. Are you doing it for someone else? Is this something you are doing for yourself or to prove a point? Whatever your reason is just give yourself a constant reminder of what that is and don’t give up! Perhaps changing your phone’s wallpaper, making a vision board or even putting a picture up next to your bed might help you as some motivation.

2. Motivate yourself.

Sometimes it can be a little hard to find motivation especially when you’re already feeling down in the dumps. The key to motivation is to find an external reason as to why you should do something. We are most likely to do something if we have a constant visual representation of it. So perhaps changing your phone’s wallpaper, making a vision board or even putting a picture next to your bed might help you bring out some of that motivation.

 3. Give yourself a break.

It’s important to give yourself a breather every once in a while, especially when you have a lot going on. A break can consist of a run in the park, grabbing drinks with friends, doing yoga, taking a nap, reading a book, etc. Whatever it is that you like to do for fun or to de-stress would be your best bet when you’re in need of a break.

4. Treat yourself.

Take yourself out on a nice dinner or get yourself a treat, it’s important to treat yourself once in a while. Do things that make you happy and get you in a good mood. I personally like to get my nails done when I’m having a rough week and it makes me feel ten times better and also helps me refocus and tackle whatever I need to do that week.

 5. Find an accountability partner.

Finding yourself an accountability partner is probably the best thing you can do when you’re trying to achieve something. When you share your goals with someone they will check in with you and ask you about your progress. This is also a good way to keep that other person accountable if they are also working towards a goal.

 6. Remember that you are not alone.

No matter how hard life can get, just remember that you are not alone. Your family and friends will always be around to support you and help you when you need it. If they are not around, they’re always just a phone call or video call away so don’t hesitate to call if you need the help.

7. Write down your thoughts and ideas.

It’s always a good idea to keep a journal or a small notebook where you can reflect and write down your thoughts and ideas. Sometimes being able to put your thoughts into words helps express what you really feel. It’s also a form of expression that most people tend to oversee but it can actually be very beneficial.

8. Think about all the time and energy you’ve invested thus far.

When you feel like giving up it’s easy to just say “forget it” and walk away. But when you begin to think about all the time, work and dedication that you’ve put into something then you start to think twice about whether you really want to throw it all away or not. Just think about it this way, if time were money then how many dollars would you would be throwing away if you just gave up and walked away right now? Too many? Then stop wasting it, keep fighting and don’t give up on your dreams.

 

Whatever your goal is or whatever dream you’re working towards right now remember that things won’t always be easy. But when things get tough just think about all the things that you had to surpass to get to the next level. Nothing in life that is worth fighting for is easy to attain but once you do, you will be so happy and so proud that you kept pushing yourself to get to where you are today.
