With spring fast approaching, the flowers outside are (hopefully) starting to sprout through the newly warm soil. With nice days on the horizon, you might be looking to spruce up your apartment with a little spring cleaning. Perhaps even with some new decorations.

What says spring better than some floral decor? Not much. Don’t shy from the idea of floral’s “girly” persona, floral spring decorations can be done tastefully and well without looking like the apartment of a tween girl.

Here are six ways to decorate your apartment with floral decor.

1. Floral duvet

One of the easiest ways to incorporate floral into your apartment is with the addition of a floral duvet or blanket. While having the entirety of your bed in floral may seem daunting, there are options for you. Not all floral accents have to be bright and overtly colorful, some can be just as pretty by being monochromatic, even minimalistic.

Some patterns may not even seem to be floral patterns at first. Floral duvets can come in a multitude of styles from realistic flowers to outline bi-color designs. It won’t be difficult to find a floral duvet that suits your fancy.

2. Pillows

If a large floral duvet may still seem like a bit too much for you, some floral pillows may be the way to go. Pillows are an excellent way to bring bold prints and lively color into any room. Much like duvets, the fabric opportunities for pillows are virtually limitless. You can go for muted and understated to eye-catching and vibrant. Floral pillows work great whether on your bed or on your living room rental furniture. They can go a long way in jazzing up your apartment without making your space seem too busy.

3. Wall art

Perhaps the most obvious way to decorate is by using wall art. Wall art is perfect for expressing your artistic interests as well as your decorative ones. Do not underestimate the aesthetic value of a  floral artistic piece. Flowers can be used in so many artistic settings: as backdrops, as patterns, as the focal point of a piece, the possibilities don’t end there.

Recently, I’ve been lured in by the old school charm of botancial illustrations. It wouldn’t be difficult to jump over to Etsy and find some beautiful flower prints that can easily be hung. Or, if you’re feeling crafty, don’t hesitate to grab a cheap canvas or some paper and make a floral painting or drawing yourself. You could even try drying some real flowers and framing them too.

4. Real flowers

Easily my favorite way to decorate with floral is to use real flowers. Real flowers never fail to bring life into any room or apartment, no matter the occasion. Bringing beautiful sights and smells, freshly cut flowers are a joy to have. A simple vase is the only other thing you need.

Fresh flowers are perfect for your changing moods. Whatever mood you’re in, the flowers you choose to bring home can reflect it. And freshly cut flowers don’t always have to be expensive. Many grocery stores will sell flowers that cost under $10. Making sure you care for your flowers is essential for getting the best looking and longest lasting blooms. Pay attention to your blossoms and they’ll be sure to repay you with their beauty.

5. Fake flowers

If perhaps you don’t feel like throwing down the cash for new flowers each week or just lack a green thumb, fake flowers may be the way to go. Fake flowers bring just as much beauty to any dull apartment. They’re also much easier to match with your decorations. You can go to your local crafts and supply store and pick out exactly what colors, styles, and size flowers you want.

If you have lots of interesting potential vases lying around, why not fill them with some fake flowers? Old glass bottles, mason jars, whatever you come up with, a lovely sprig of color would look beautiful residing in it.

6. Floral scents

If perhaps having floral visually in your apartment isn’t your thing, why not opt for decorating florally with scent? Flowers are notorious for their beautiful aromas and your apartment could benefit from them greatly. Many candles and scent lamps come in floral scents that can be complimentary to you. Hunt around for the exact scent that you like and stick to it or change floral scents with the seasons. You can stick to traditional ones like lavender and rose or opt for something a little different like peony. Whichever you choose, the addition of floral scent to your apartment will be sure to have guests breathing deeply when visiting your place.

Because of floral’s versatility and range, decorating with it isn’t a difficult task. Many people find that flowers bring life and beauty into their lives whether on bed sheets, paintings, or in the form of live flowers. Whichever way you choose to incorporate floral into your apartment decor, you’ll be sure to know you’ve made the right decision. Flowers may scream springtime, but are truly timeless.
