Global Peace Exchange at FSU

Are you interested in humanitarian work?  Would you like the chance to volunteer in another country? Well then you should join Global Peace Exchange!

Global Peace Exchange is a non-profit organization. This organization was founded and is run by students at Florida State University. Global Peace Exchange is partnered with the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy.

Students get the chance to fundraise and organize projects. During the summer, students spend two months in different countries in order to work on those projects. Some of these countries include Ghana, Cambodia, and more. The projects are developmental projects. They get to volunteer, work on sustainable development, and so much more. Past projects have focused on areas such as women and youth empowerment and education.

Heading off to a country that you know nothing about can be a bit scary and overwhelming. No worries, GPE has their volunteers covered! Before they head off to the country for two months, students must go through training. Each team learns about the country they will be living in. They get familiar with the culture, native language, and even basic phrases. Students also attend workshops. Some examples of these workshops are “team building” and “responsibilities as ambassadors abroad.”

This organization is perfect for college students! Students get experience with fundraising and organizing projects. These type of skills are great for students and will come in handy in the long run.

Instead of the typical study abroad programs offered at universities, students get to actually help out in a country. They might find develop an interest or a bigger interest in humanitarian work. Students get to actually experience a culture different from the ones that they know or are used to. Most importantly, they have the opportunity to go though a life changing experience.

Global Peace Exchange is having an event on March 24^th, hosted at The Strip. This event will have different bands and specials all night. The money fundraised at this event will go towards Global Peace Exchange in their efforts to make a change in the countries that they will go to over the summer. There are also door prizes that you could possibly win such as gift cards.
